Biker down in Manawatu last night (26 December)

A motorcyclist was killed after crashing into a lamp post in Halcombe in Manawatu last night, taking the holiday road toll to two.

Emergency services were called at 10.27pm when it appeared the rider had lost control of a Moto Guzzi 1100 while overtaking at a passing lane on Kakariki Road.

    The updates today

"A motorcyclist was killed after crashing into a lamp post in Halcombe in Manawatu last night, taking the holiday road toll to two." (Previous release said 1km from SH1)

"Emergency services were called at 10.27pm when it appeared the rider had lost control of a Moto Guzzi 1100 while overtaking at a passing lane on Kakariki Road.

The road, near SH1, was closed for two hours."

I do so hope that it wasn't "race fever" it would be such a waste. CA was right, there was drizzle for us on the way home from Wanganui at about 7pm ... we even rode through HAIL at Pukerua Bay - a first for me.

Another brother/sister lost!!!! It's getting to the stage where one doesn't want to read the Herald online anymore for fear of reading about another biker down.
There are no strangers in Kiwi Biker, only friends I haven't yet met.

It's the worst feeling you can imagine. I was supposed to have ridden down to Wanganui with Brett. Plan A was we were to have stayed in Wanganui last night. Instead, I couldn't make it & he was on the road.
