    Very impressed with this!

I have to say that on reading this article, I am very impressed!

    Why?

Because this time someone (BMW) is listening to what their "customers" want!

If did not have my new Tiger, I would be seriously approaching BMW now.

I will not be buying one but I do salute BMW on this innovative, customer driven design. Cheers John.

I hope this is not a re-post as I can not find one anywhere else!

    Very nice bikes but...
Why oh why did they call it the F650GS?

More on the dirt side of adventure than the Tiger. Which is not a bad thing.

I have never been fond of "dirt bikes" but this one.... woah... I would buy one as a "second" bike to my road beast. Looks fantastic... although that rear mudguard would have to go...

Yep very nice. If they had been around before I bought my 1150GS then I would've got one. Having ridden the F800S a few times I was most impressed with the engine. It should be a cracker.

    They have done it again

10/10 for BMW for building the ugliest bike on the market. with a price tag as high as the ducks bill. I personally cannot see bikers queuing up to buy this pile of Gerry made whatever.
Not when you can buy the latest Triumph Tiger 1050 for a similar price tag. With drop dead gorgeous looks. Put the two side by side. I know which bike would sell faster. Also perform better. The Tiger1050 would win in a canter. On or "of" road!!

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." As nice as the new Tiger is, IMO it isn't a genuine off road contender like the BMW. I like the lower fuel storage. An under-seat exiting exhaust would be an improvement, to better fit panniers, without losing any volume like the 955i.

IMHO Tiger 1050 is hideous , at least compared to the original 900 model. Or Tiger Cub

This F650/800GS looks kewl. And I think you'll find `Gerry-built' is a positive feature to most people (especially given Triumph's recent build-quality nightmares) rather than a negative. Sure, crazed bigots won't buy it, but I dare say they won't have any trouble selling them.

What a crock of shit, Huck.

You would be down on the first cow shit or berm of gravel on that thing!!!!!!!!!!

Beauty IS in the eye of the beholder, and the 'kraut' engineering is well respected and sought after the world over; despite any misgivings you may have regarding the last war.( that is WW2,ok)

I am thrilled to say that mine is on order as we speak...thrilled I said.Period.

But, I am an adventurer after all.

Really like this. After riding my old man's 1150GS and watching the Long Way Down I think a slightly smaller bike would be a better bet for when I want to have a crack at this sort of thing. I was initially thinking that a 650 would be the go but I like the idea of a twin - esp the parallel (sp) twin. Should go really nice and be a bit lower/lighter than the 1200.

C'mon lotto - want to buy a big shed and fill with bikes...

What Honda should have done with the new Transalp

You're right there John. The F 800 GS keeps with the accepted 'adventure bike' when many are making their adventure bikes more road orientated eg V Strom, Tiger, Transalp etc. I'd not buy the new Transalp but would certainly have a good look at the F 800 GS if I was in the market. Cheers.
Sometimes you wish it was easier, but if it was, everyone else would do it, then you remember you don't want to be like everybody else!

I like the look of it as well and agree with the comments regarding it being much more of an adventure bike than the Tiger - even the 955 like mine, let alone the emasculated new one that should have been called something other than a Tiger because its just a sealed road machine now.

So how much do you reckon they'll list it at - over $20K?????

    The 800GS.
An underpowered alternative to a KTM for more money.
    Genius.

Keeps the poseurs happy I suppose...

Don't forget that Hinckley have swapped the Tiger/Trophy names; the Tiger was the road machine and the Trophy was the scrambler pre-Bloor, were they not?

Having just spent 6 days away on the Trophy - two-up with camping gear - despite the upgraded suspension I'm still stunned by just how bumpy and crappy the roads are in the top of the South. The KTM simply smooths them out so you don't notice. I would much rather have a new 1050 Tiger or similar as the most road-oriented bike for touring NZ. That is, rather than a full-on road bike; but really I'd struggle to buy anything that didn't have at least gravel road pretensions.
    Cheers,
    Colin
