Ooops....shit, now I'm exposed ( not a pretty sight either) for what I really am: a lier!!
How could I forget the Road Sofa (RS) so easily? Maybe it was a part of my life I would like to deny ever happened? But....back on subject.....while the RS was not ME, it was a very high scorer in all respects wasn't it? Only, it did not suit MY riding style( Style??? who said I had any??) but would have been a fine bike for the right rider in the right conditions.
But I do stand corrected, my 2nd BMr![]()
Wow havent we opened a huge can of worms here
Oscar
Just cause you own a KTM, doesn't mean everyone else has too
You come in here and slag other brands and breeds, I have a 650, and you constantly slag them.
I don't care.
How about once in your life you actually say something constructive about your bike, rather that going into a slanging match about other brands (unless of course someone actually wants the pros and cons of that particular advice)
Whilst I know that you probably know these bikes inside out, and whilst you think that they are crap for whatever reason, others don't share the same sentiments
I have a 650, and I think it is brilliant
It gets me where I am going, its reliable, its good on the gravel, and I don't want to/nor expect to take it anywhere much worse than that (but I do)
The 650 was a step up from the DRZ250, and it is a huge improvement.
I don't ride a BMW cause I have lots of money (in fact far from it, I had to save for ages to get enough coin to upgrade), when I was in the market I looked at all brands
I test rode the DR650, the 650 and the KTM
Whilst I liked the KTM a lot, the price was just to much to justify, and I felt I really needed to push it hard on the gravel all the time.
The 650 I didn't, I could cruise or push it
With the ole girl on the back the KTM just didn't cut it, but again the BMW did.
So as you can see, I don't have any particular allegiance to any brand, I brought the one that fitted my needs at the time, and I haven't regretted it once, I still smile whether I am going on a trip or to the shops
So either you have lost the enthusiasm for riding, or you have too much money and waste it on bikes that don't fit your needs at the time and therefore are bitterly disappointed, or rather I suspect that as I have never met you, that you know shit loads about these bikes, and I would love to yarn to you over a cold beer as I know you would be too willing to share your valuable experiences in person rather than on an Internet forum
The 650 is probably going to be replaced next year, so I need to consider all the options again
Just my thoughts

I do like the new offerings from BMW. I would have bought one if the 2008 Tiger wasn't fitted with ABS.
Golly, another contributor whose verbosity exceeds his acumen.
Where did I say that KTM was the only answer? I've owned summat like 40 motorcycles over the last 30 years (and if they'd all been KTM's I'd be broke now). I owned a V-Strom, and can't speak highly enough of it. When I sold it, I got my hands on a GS1200A for a week or so, I loved it, but couldn’t see how it was worth so much more than a 950 Adv (which I bought).
In fact - where did I slag other brands? I call it as I see it – I owned a GS650D, it was a disappointing POS. You like it, bascially because you don't know any better (and that I think is the nub of your complaint here - I have actually only consistantly slagged one bike, the one you own). The fact is that the Transalp is an all around better bike than the 650GSD, as is (in respect of value for money) a DR650. If you were more assiduous is your criticism of me you will have noted that I am also very keen on the Cagiva Canyon – a bike that is approximately 60% of the price of the BMW.
I am neither rich nor disappointed, just a gobshite with a shitload of experience which you may either listen to or not (it's a free country at the moment).
As for enthusiasm, I think it rages on unabated. I am off for a ride tomorrow, and I have the choice between a 640LC4, a 950LC8 or a Transalp - more unsolicited opinions when I return.
threads like this are so much fun
keep it up ladies...
well HF this just goes to show you dont no shit about beamersas you can see i have two of them & if I had not just brought the 1150 (was cheap) i would be getting the 850
my 650 has done 119750km all but 40000 in less than two years with no probs & the only reason for selling it I wanted a bigger toy (its a male thing)
have just replaced clutch, water pump, front & rear wheel bearings, clutch & throttle cables
let see how your bike stands up to the adverture riding or are you one of these guys who brags & rides on the tar seal only?
Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down ones life for his friends. (John 15:13)
The meds are almost working well now, I find I can almost resist the 'urges'( lovingly caressing the Schrade lock-back in the pocket...)...maybe I should get back to therapy once the bleeding hols are over???....maybe I wont....maybe I'll ditch the meds....maybe......oh fuck it.
I think there is a strong probability you are a cahnt....but I wouldn't ( and haven't) say so untill I have had the pleasure of a few ales with you first!!!!
Whos the lying little prick who said I haven't ridden a DL? Judging me without knowing???? poor form Osc...very poor form. I have and I think they are a good bike- but where do they fit in our BMW bashing? ( oh...do emphasise touring ahead of adventure for the DL- those cast rims and 19" front are liabilities for MY kind of adventuring ol' son.
And, what? only 30 years experience?....where you been..............
.
Where did I say you hadn't ridden a DL?
I did suggest you rode one before judging, and it turns out you had (although I suspect not anyway near its potential). The Strom is a lot more adventurous than it looks.
Actually this argument, whereby much more cogent than previous attempts, is somewhat ruined by your assertion that you are buying a GS800.
Have you ridden one...?
And howsabout a translation on the "Milwakee Suzuki" thing.
Read ur post again you dick.............................................. ............
Wheels and tyre size haven't gone away?( this refers to the DL that I 'NEEDED' to ride before I criticised it, remember??) Actually, I didn't criticise it, I think I said they are a good bike, didn't I????)Doh!
Milwarkee don't put out Suzukis do they( dick again!!) With ur vast experience I'm sure you know what they do, and hence who I mean.
Uhh-haaaaa......I think I tire of this....will go pop some more, and then maybe lay down another 4 hectares this arvo, just for light relief....its less messy than carving stuff up. Make hay while the sun shines, then I can go riding when it rains...Hahaha.......Did I tell u its yella? Oh fuck yeah.....yellayellayellayella, hey, theres a snake like that eh? yella...yellabelly thing.....no,no, I'm confused, must go now. hey, i see 1 'o them sattiltite thingies goin over...thats not you Ol' Osc? spyn on me would ya?would ya, eh?eh?.....fuck................................... ................................
Now we're being abusive (not to mention incomprehensible).
And I think you've been in the sun enough for one day as the "milwakee" reference was yours:
So I guess you've just called yourself a dick...Beats the best Suzuki could do hands down and FAR exceeds anything the putrid Milwarkee outlet in the waikato could even dream up!!!
I see the problem, well 1 of them, I missed a vital ',' after 'down'. Refering to dealerships as I were in the thread this came from; I did mean that I have had better service from my Bmr outlet than any of the Suzuki dealers I have dealt with ( 3 x Quads on property, all Suz, turned over 1 each 2nd year; you will see I have vast dealings with Suz), AND far exceeds anything..etc....you get the picture.Outlet=Dealership.
You are however, right about the sun and me; we have indeed seen too much of each other today, but it was good to make hay while it shone!
Anyway, I want to finish 2007, cunt of a year it was for me, the way I want to go thru 2008; on a high. Soooo,
HAPPY NEW YEAR AND SEASONS WISHES to all my friends out there in Adventureland, and those who haven't become friends yet. May 2008 be full of long and winding roads( gravel), and happy trips with good friends!
To you too Osc, lets get together sometime, over an ale and finish thrashing BMW's eh?!!!
Jamie.
