The twisties take on a whole nuther appearance with your bike handling like an ass... but this new baby probably takes it in it's stride, sorta what it was built for...

Maybe his new bike will give him better fuel economy than his last, 1 litre to every 10 kilometres .

Oh no, it *is* a VTEC then. Mrs FS obviously did the choosing. At least they're nice-looking. The blue ones are prettiest, too, there's one lives here in Te Atatu somewhere.

VTEC, eh. Well, it's herself wot'll 'ave to file the servicing invoices, so... meh.

firestormer will, of course, have to implement my suggestion and petition SpankMe to change his (Ian's) handle to 'böringfahrt'.

Could have been worse, I suppose. He could have bought a Leadwing.

Nup. New bike - Yes; VTEC - Nup.
Mrs FS lurved the styling ("It's got lovely lights - they look like cat eyes!" "Ooh - look at those nice zorsts"!"), and I loved the handling, styling, instrument panel, but (BUT!) did not like the VTEC, from the point of view of the WAAAAAHHH!! noise when it cut in. Or the servicing costs, which they tried to tell me were only "around $400" every 24,000 km.
The first time the VTEC cut in the extra 8 valves, even though I was expecting it, the noise gave me a bit of a fright. There's no real kick like a turbo or extra venturi, so it's just dumb. And Honda camchains suck.

    So, here's the story.

On Saturday, we went looking for a helmet for Mrs FS. As expected, when confronted with all those shiny motorbikes, she got quite interested. "Oooh - look at that one!" "That one's nice!" etc etc. She even sat on a Cagiva Raptor and found it was just her size (Note: Short ladies - Cagiva Raptor 650s are a good fit) But it was all just looking, with no serious intentions from either of us.
We discovered the Shoei Raid ($399 at Motomail) was an excellent fit, but went from shop to shop, trying on everything else. Nothing worked. So we set off home. Nearly at our off-ramp, I said, "Seeing we're out'n'about, should we go to Barry's Point?"
    "Yeah - may as well."
So we trucked on into Cyclespot, and found an Arai that fit as well as the Shoei. Errr... only $600 dearer.

Somehow, we decided we should test ride some bikes. The junior sales dude somehow decided we were going to buy a brand new Blackbird (actually a Bluebird), but I didn't even bother test-riding it. Mebbe I should've? It was less than $18k new.
So we shot off home, had lunch, got our gear on (yeah, we were shopping naked before that. It was a warm day.), and took the FahrtSturm in. Tested the VFR800 (lovely, and felt perfect two-up), then a 2003 VTEC (lovely, but the VTEC thingo sucked). What to do.... what to do...
Salesman: "You should think about ditching your VTR. It's got high kms, it's losing value fast, and now is a good time."
Me: "Mmmmm.... I dunno. Let's go home and think on it."
Mrs FS: "I think you should do it."
Me: ponder ponder fret worry ponder indecision indecision AARRRRGGHHH!!

So, we bought it, there and then, and I picked it up yesterday. Oh yeah - and we went back to Motomail and bought the Raid, and went for a last ride together on the FahrtSturm. Yesterday was my farewell ride on it, so it was compulsory for maximum hooning on the way to work - at least 4 wheelies, strafing the back streets, etc etc.

Already asked about that, but I was thinking maybe "viffer" (my monicker in another forum) or "vifferman".

    Errk.
No, Mrs FS has better taste than that. And after seeing a couple next to us at the lights on a black one, sweating in their black leathers, we both thought, "No way!" And the one that was being test-ridden and/or sold when we were looking at VFRs was just too yucky for Mrs FS (and it wasn't just the colour).

I've already got some slippers; do I really have to get a pipe, and a tweed jacket?
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....
