There's a couple/few of us that aren't so interested in the Molesworth so are considereing going up the Rainbow and back via Porika maybe and definately Braeburn, Maruia Saddle, and Westbank Road maybe, Lewis back to Hanmer... or in reverse (I'd skip the Porika for sure in that direction), we might be able to catch the rest of the ride at St Arnaud.

    Here's the Hanmer Garages number... 03-315 7107
I think the answer phone said they are usually open 7:30am to 6pm Mon-Fri and 8am to 6pm Sat/Sundays.
There was no mention of Public Holidays.

Have some friends who are hoping to do Molesworth later this month. Phonecalls to two diff people at the Marlborough DOC office this morning, both said they are reassessing this week. One person said likely to be closed and if so it would be closed for the season. Second person said will be looked at on a day to day basis.

Hope you all have a plan B if it's close, but if you get through, have an awesome time!!

Hi everyone, I rang the garage and they are not going to open till about 9am, because of public holiday. the owner said she doesnt want to pay time and a half rates when quiet.

That's it then, I'm taking a spare 23 litre can on the back to Hanmer now, so if I fill at Amberley that evening I can still top up me and probably a few other latecomers so we can get an early start in the morning.....

what time does the station close on tuesday night ?

No chance of me being there for then.....

I just phoned Shell in Amberley ( 0 3 314 7060 ), and discovered for those going through Tuesday evening, a splash and dash is possible there up until around 9.45pm ( Officially 10pm, but the girl said they usually shut at around 10 to..... ) and they are open at 6am Wednesday morning for those going up that morning.....

I will be bringing that can.....

    Cheers, Stu

There is 24 hour fuel (card at pump outside hours) at the caltex at the south end of Culverden if that helps. Slightly more expensive fuel but means you dont have to carry too far. Also it is only about 35kms from Culverden to Hanmer so for those that are close but only just this makes Culverden a reasonable last fuel stop.

Dont rely on St Arnaud being open but there is 24 hour fuel at Murch as well (card at truck stop kiosk which operates petrol pumps closest to it outside of hours)

    Cheers R

Nice to know it's open, but don't think we'll be needing it after 6pm.
I'd expect to be almost home by then.
