2 stroke oil is so bloody expensive

Why is 2 stroke oil so bloody expensive. I've been on a few long rides, and the bike's been drinking it. I've been using the fully synthetic stuff, but at about $20 a litre its not cheap.

Should I try a cheaper mineral-based oil? The bike is an aprilia rs250.

Or does anyone know where I can get some fully synthetic stuff cheaply?

It's probably cheaper if you can find someone to sell you a 20litre of it. In The Olde Daze, back when I had a 2-smoke, one could buy the erl at the forecourt, from the pump, and it was much cheaper, as you weren't paying for expensive containers, advertising, handling, etc etc.

It is bloody cheap, compared to the costs of repair if you don't use enough....
But how much is " a lot" ? as in how many liters of petrol for 1 liter of oil?...(to check if your oil use is excessive...)

No. Unless I can buy the wreck off you.

Reality is, if you run a near pure race bike, you muct expect to have near race costs.

Want to use cheaper oil, get a GN250.

Pssssh. There's a reason why the RS250 will see off most other 250s without any trouble... it's a thoroughbred and should be treated as such.

You should be grateful that TTS is only $20 a litre!

Actually it hasn't been using that much, I have noticed that it seemed to have been quite thirsty when I went up and down on the hills, but around town and on the flat it seemed to be quite good with it.

Its just that I've been spending quite a bit on the bike I just put some new conti sport attacks on it for $500, but the tyres are awesome - the missus is jealous because she reckons I pay more attention to the bike than her.

My RGV is hoeing through the TTS pretty happily at the moment. I'll be checking the oil pump adjustment when I'm in the belly of the beast next

yeah, check adjustment of oil pump and go shopping around, and try find a deal. If you use enough to moan about it soemone will probably give it to ya a bit cheaper than stickerprice. I'm getting TTS at 17 bucks for a one litre.
Just about shat myself to see WMCC selling it for $30 a litre!

I used to get it direct from Castrol in Seaview - but I worked in the motor industry so was able to provide a trade order.

It was $54 for 4L, back in 1991.

Cor blimey And heres me sticking Valvoline 2 stroker oil at 9.95 a litre into Daisy! (Actually cheaper than that since I wait till Supercheap has their 25% sale and I buy out the entire stock of it ... 8 bottles perched happily on the shelf ensconced in the knowledge they will be used up soon! )

took me ages to find the right oil to give me the smokey, smelly and piss off the cagers behind oil!

You should try TTS then... you'll sit in the fumes when it's warming up in the morning just cause it's that nice

Dude, you forked out for an RS250, a bit extra for decent oil isn't going to kill you (no oil might... seizure yay!)

on a similar note, anyone tried "Castrol R2 racingbike" oil? Any noticable difference?
