It's so ugly I'd have guessed USA origins....but if non-Allied, it can't be. Are we talking just non-Allied (that would include neutral) or are we talking Axis?

Can't be Chinese anyway- looks too well made, and in any event I believe they were supposed to have been our pals in WWII.

Just a thought- the Italians, famous for their engineering of reverse gears (probably why they got so good at bevels), weren't Axis by the end of WWII. Still, at least it's now narrowed down to what we came to know as West Germany. Made of melted down Spitfires and P51's I suppose. Looks rather good for the output of a bomb-ravaged industry.
