    old and wise....Yeah right

All those threads with tips, gear, preparation, tyre choice, maps etc... I did read quite a few, remembered some stuff from years ago....
But did it all wrong today, Sunny day so just riding a bit...No plan,no map, end up at the Okuku river..see a spot that looks ok to cross "just to see whats on the other side" was a bit deeper then I thought...Found that the "Bridgestone Trailwings" in the mud are as usefull as banana skn gloves in a mudwrestling competition .... Electric starter saves the day halfway submerged ,And oxford boots hold 2.1 liters of water each...
!60 kg dry for bike is at least double wet....
Dry off on Okuku pass/Lees valley, ...
Wife not impressed to have to come to whiterock with spare fuel.....
Thank god phone didnt get to wet...
Should have filled up in Rangiora...
All in all an eventfull little "adventure", having learned a lot....again...
    Yeah right...

These things are just sent to try us!

Thank goodness we never stop learning.

If we did, we would probably stop living! John.

sounds like you had a great day then
now all you have to do is get some more brownie points so you can do it all again

The knowledge I gained over the years in regards with browniepoints I can easily share:
    They don't keep....
    They don't work in retrospect...
They are like loyalty rewards, you can only spend them at an approved location....and only on certain specialy marked items ....

Its sunny again....and boots are nearly dry, may take the bike to buy a map...

    Yeah right

We went through around new year and the same river crossing gave me some probs on my Tiger, admittedly loaded with panniers and all our gear. The bottom was soft and the tyres just buried themselves rather than going forward. We had to push to get through. http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/im...ilies/oops.gif

However!!! my mate who was with us on a brand new Street Triple on road tyres got through no trouble. They were wide and smooth so they didnt dig in.

The moral of the story? Sell the tiger and buy a street triple or else - who needs an adventure bike? He did drop it though in another ford which modified the brake lever into an unusual shape. It goes to show that with a bit of determination, its surprising where you can ride on the most unlikely bike.
