I have done a bad thing to my KLX - I accidentally installed the oil filter back to front after the first change. The motor got rattlier after a few rides before having it investigated. Result - new top end required. The oil filter is reversed fit from the norm (WR450 etc.) so my mistake can be explained. I've had it back a while and it is all good now.
Recently fitted a KX muffler and rejetted but backfires on the overrunn - I heard a bigger accelerater pump could be a cure - needs further investigation.

what rejetting did you do, sounds lean if it is back firing, have you spaced or changed the needle?
I rejetted mine. Changed the exhaust tip with the team green specs and rejetted to team green spec's. I also added and power now and a power shot pump,worked a treat.
