    Radar law petition?

A mate was telling me that they estimate that there are hundreds of thousands of detector users in this country, what would it take to set up an online petition and get places such as repco, supercheap and other sellers to have a sign up?

It'd need a well-reasoned statement to go with it, obviously - not just "I'm a hoon and I don't want to get caught, so let me keep my detector".

I haven't seen any stats linking RD use to higher accident rates, and hints that in fact the reverse may be true; that's probably a good place to start.

Your right. It should say "I payed $735 for my radar detector, so let me keep it".
While you sit there liking things just cos' everyone else does, I'll be standing up here keeping it real.

To be honest, after I got a 3 monther I did think about an RD but cost was an issue for me and although I still speed I am more aware of 'right place, right time'.

At the end of the day Rd's help people break the law and in most cases escape tickets so from this point of view the ban makes sense.

However, UK research suggests that use of RD's makes drivers safer as they are more conscious of speed.

It will stop real hoons which has to be a good one.

Of course someone will come up (beltronics do) with an RD that is smaller and hidden.

Is it really a big issue one way or another?

A small drawback that NZ gubbinments' have never been interested in petitions'.
    Worth a try though.

Great idea but needs good reasoning. Since ive had my radar in my car (not wired to bike yet..shit) i reckon i drive slower because im more aware of my speed, dont know if that will be the same on the bike but! and it cost me too much money not to use!

The best way to counter radar detectors would be to have an RF emitter on every cellphone tower flooding the area with Radar signal thus neutralising the radar detector making it next to useless.
