I just spent a whack of cash to get fittings machined up so I can fit my saddlebags, Granted they only go on when needed, But I like the idea of a couple clean pairs of gruts, a shirt, a tooth brush, and a pair of sandshoes stashed away.
Nothing new there - looks like HD are finally in the '80s...
8000km service intervals = BMW k100 circa 1983
Self adjusting valves = Honda CBX750 Boldoor (rolladoor) circa early 80s with hydralic tappets. Direct vavle actuation allows a higher RPM limit and more accurate cam timing, none of which is a HD design requirement.
Can't speak for the handling - although I would not be happy spending $40k and getting the crap OEM Showa (Japanese! Shock, horror) shocks. For that sort of money I would expect some Ohlins or equivalent and brakes to match. The standard long HD wheelbase and low CoG does help braking tho.
most Harleys around here don't spend enough time outside (especially in the rain) to comment on the finish and longevity. The BMW has stood up to years of commuting duty pretty well.

None of which is a 2008 road bike requirement.

Showa suspension performs almost as well as Ohlins nowdays.
Re-builadability and Longevity has the Vikings in front.
As I told the guys on the BMWs yesterday - If you are not in my mirrors - I can't see you. (But I waited at the turnoffs for them to catch up.)
Well I have been hovering around reading all the posts and even watched the Vid, If those guys are not brainwashed in the Video I will eat my crash helmet.
It does prove one thing though the HD is not designed for NZ roads. As for the price of the top end models. For the same price. Looking at the Triumph range I could buy a Rocket 3, and a Street Triple for my wife. For a top end model Harley. So Value for money they are definitely not.
So it does very much come back to marketing and that ego thing. I chose my user name as I thought it was a bit of a laugh. But now I see the true colours of the Harley owner coming out.
I have said many times on this forum I don't hate the product. But definitely not my choice of a ride though. And have many good mates that ride them. The only issue I have, is with "some" of the dorks that do ride them.
If this statement touches a raw nerve end and I get retaliation re my user name then you can put yourself in the dorks categorie. Really it's as simple as that.
Ride safe, and not above your head!!
