The only people keeping the price inflated are the people paying the price. If informed by someone you have asked for advice, that a 20 year old bike isn't worth $6k, don't go and pay $6k for it the next day. Simple.

If a man is alone in the woods and there isn't a woke Hollywood around to call him racist, is he still white?
ooo ooo oooh! If you look really quickly there's a 1999 Tiger going for 10 million in the dirt bike section....

i was shocked at the prices of 250cc bikes when i first starting looking for one
hows $2000 for a 1989 GN250? i saw that sell !!
its not around now, was on trademe ... i nearly fell off my seat
& you can definitely get a bigger bike for the same or less money than a 250
a 1988 750 katana in awesome nick sold recently on TM for $1800
(i like old bikes in case you cant tell)
in the end, i bought a basketcase & rebuilt it
it may still owe me 2 grand but its mint & i have a whole spare bike for parts![]()

It's getting worse

And this being a private sale too, not just a greedy dealer.
Shame on them!
The RS250s are usually much pricier than the other 250s on the market, but that's pretty excessive even for one of those.

well 250's have always been ridiculously over priced due to demand and manufacturers not making any new 250's sports bikes however with the new zxr250 available i suspect this is about to change the Hyobag won't be the only option for sports
Ya, the rs on trade me for 12g or what eve it is he wants is a joke. They are good but not that good!!!! If he gets that for his expect to see mine on their soon after! (Jokes, id never sell mine)
I payed $7500 for mine, and considering there are 95 zxr's on trademe for $1500 less, the extra performance and feel is worth it if youve got the $$$.
One advantage of getting a good 250 is that they generally hold their value if you look after them. So if you pay 5g for a 94 zxr now, after your 2 years, if you look after it you should be able to sell it for about that, and that gives you a nice nest egg for a bigger bike. The new bikes will lose abit of money, cus buying new always does and they dont have as much performance as the old ones, but theres a whole other forum for that, the new 1s have thier place and so do the old ones....riders choise.
Granted thow i REALLY resent paying more for a 250 than i would for a half decent 600 of 750but hey the market is what it is
Final run was 2003...they're reasonable collectable, due to the reputation, performance, last and best of the 250 2strokes (i recan best 250 period, but im biased), there racing pedegry yada yada yada, but there not made of gold like this guy seems to think, lol, i still cant believe the asking price and i ride 1!!!!
Hence I just sold my 250cc as it was too tiny for my 6'0 frame. The inline four screamers are good fit especially the ZXR but I seriously cant be fucked paying anymore than 3k for some 20 year old bike thats been crashed just as many times and raped day in day out cause they have no power to get you anywhere fast and even if I did pay 3k look what I'd be stuck with, looking like a fool on the side of the road when it fucks out.
IMO FUCK 250cc, I'm just going to drive a car until I get my full class 6 license as I feel If I have to ride a slow uncomfortable piece of shit anyways it might aswell give me protection and music and a place to put my beers.
I suspect there are a couple of issues in this market, part of which is a total lack of range in the new bike market, if you take a look at the current offerings the is sod all choice unless of course you want a cruiser styled bike.
Its not the destination that is important its the journey.
true, true, (my partner has just got his restricted and doesn't want to buy a 250 so he is wating it out aswell).
I just sold my 87' GSXR250, for $3200 i should be ashamed!!
but F*&^% I payed $3800 for it 3 years ago (being new to the road bike scene) (I felt ripped off after i brought it too!!) and only put 3 thousand not so screaming kz on it in that time. and it is a mint example believe it or not.
keep it on 1 wheel!!!!
