    zxr 400

I am thinking about a project bike. What are zxr 400s like? Mechanically? Handling? Ease and cost of spares? There is a 90 on TM-64000kms unreg-bidding approaching $1600. Your feedback appreciated.

mmmm, Track bike?? Doubt I'd bother if your putting it back on the road, Revinn$$ , TLC,minor repairs, another way of saying "I've spent shit all on maintence" its Done moderate km's,so be prepared for some more $$ input. Has been repainted.

Manic on the road, have to rev like hell to get anywhere but means end up going silly fast. Rear susp really hard. Many have been raced. Were the bike for F3 so got expensive & good spares used up, then became obsolete with SV650 so time to flick off tarted as a roadbike. Racing means high revs & they do in Valves if not replaced every season or so. Makes a mess, some mod in Yam FZR valves.

No I haven't viewed, Just giving svboy some thoughts to think about. Not sure what he wants to do with it ie track/Road as he has a nice gsxr600 . I've learnt the hard way over the years buying what looked like cheapies, and ended up project "money pit" , when the money its cost would have been cheaper buying a better bike. I'm also iffy as alot of these were raced, and this one repainted and has been off the road(unreg) for a long time.

I have an '89 ZXR400. Its capable of keeping up with much bigger bikes especially round winding roads....i ride with a cbr600 and several harleys....only one of the harleys has managed to get away from me in a straight line and that was a 1200 sportster with a screaming eagal kit but only because i couldn't get over 190km's...(has a cut out at 190kms.) Loves to rev hard...best kept above 10000rpms and worked up till redline.....absolutly punches out of corners and handles moderatly well....bit hard in the back end but I haven't played round with the suspension on mine...it rides pretty well as it is and does wot I ask of it with out to much effort. Needs some extra seat padding though...anything over an hour in the saddle and the arse gets sore. I have found though that riding it two up makes the handling feel more readable and firm....dosent get the flightyness in the ass end when you try and back it into a corner...misses thinks its just the ducks nuts...lol
