Huh, you should check out some of the delightful little creatures we have attending our high schools in south auckland. Even in schools the desire for them to show off what "big men" (and in some cases the girls can be just as bad!!!) they are with their gangsta wannabe shit is pathetic. Oh, and so full of "their rights" - it doesn't occur remotely to them that other people have rights too. Their mentality is based on hero worship of gangsta rap, street scrappers, triad type loyalty and the like.
No wonder really in a culture where someone breaking into your house and assaulting you and stealing your stuff gets better treatment if they injure themselves than the victim of their crime. Our youth get the very strong message all the time that they can take what they like, no need to "earn" anything; chances are any punishment is more of a joke (or at the very least simply an opportunity to build their rep/cred amongst their moron peers); and the earnest responsible parents out there trying their best to keep their wayward kids on a straight path get very little support!

I should add I lived in Takanini for 3yrs as well so I hear ya on South Auckland. We used to get the local kids hitting golf balls at our house every once in a while. They thought it was a great laugh especally as the police never could catch them. Still it could have been worse, atleast we didn't get a rock dropped on our car as we passed a underbridge on the motorway.

All other moral issues aside, what if one of the arrested was innocent and the lynch mob took them out anyway? I'm not going to lower myself to their level. They deserve fair trial, but probably a more severe penalty than they'll get.

I mean, i've walked from the city to remuera at 2 in the morning with little trouble, and im sure thats a slightly worse area than milford FFS, apparantly not.

Im just worried about the legality of an issue like this arrising.

Maybe some of the 5-0 on this site could contribute. If i was walkin' home, and a punk like this, or several punks like this show up, threaten me, and i put 'em in hospital through use of a weapon, lets say a knife for instance. What's gonna happen to me? Will i get charged with assault with a deadly weapon even though it was self defence?

I hope nothing like this happens But i couldn't hurt to know

I am an IT geek, i use a swiss army type knife pretty much daily so it lives on my belt (hangs down from a belt loop).
