It would be interesting to know what the cam bearing clearances are.
Courier riders often ride quite hard from the get go.
Lack of oil supply/pressure could mean excessive wear at the cam bearings, that leads to cam "flex", that leads to premature fractures.
Ask the shop to mic up the bearings for an accurate failure report. Poor quality oil will also contribute to cam bearing wear.

I'm hardly a mechanic, but that does sound likely. Hard to blame Hyosung when a feckin' despatch rider trashes a bike Probably had the nuts revved off it from cold, oil levels not checked, stuff like that.

Good luck, but I don't think Fair Go will touch it. The bike was well out of warranty, and being used for a purpose it was never designed for.

The 250 is a learner/commuter bike, not a commercial use machine. I am suprised that anyone would use anything under 500cc for courier type work and expect it to last.
    Time to ride

Bloke was probably on a restricted or learner licence therefore he either has to break the law or his children starve.

VTR250 would manage the job alright and I know of people using 225 singles for courier work.

    Watch this space
So he buys a bike and does not ask the warranty details. Uses it as a commercial transport (probably against the terms of the warranty and his insurance). Has a problem AFTER the stated warranty has expired and then thinks that FAIR GO will be bothered. Yeah right!

I'm always amazed how people ALWAYS think its someone else's fault. He needs to bite the bullet and just fix his bike like the rest of us.

Ill watch this space - but bet dollars to donuts FAIR GO wont touch it.

Well yes it is surprising , courier bikes run hot all day & are moving all day. They don't go through the heat up /cool down cycle that a commuter bike would go through & lubrication would be supplied to the entire engine with no 'cold start' wear except for the first start in the morning.
For this bike to fail as it has after such a short period of time should be investigated further.
If the bike was mine I would have the broken parts tested by an independant laboratory to see what caused the failure. Then you could say wether it was operator error or a manufacturing fault , poor design or substandard lubrication.

You seem to be missing the obvious, the bike is out of warranty. Wether it has been thrashed or treated like a first born it has done more kms than it is covered for under warranty. Any money spent on testing would be better spent on repairs or a replacement bike as reguardless of the outcome it is out of warranty.

No I'm not missing the obvious, the cams failed, the question is why.
Testing doesn't cost that much & the reason for the failure would be found, then the owner of said bike would then know what to change to stop a repeat failure in the future.
If the reason for the failure is substandard materials or lubricant THEN he can go the manufacturer for restitution & costs .
If the failure is the rider giving it death right from startup that will also show in a metal test, either way he will know
Without the testing he is just crying in his porridge.

My 97 bandit 250 shared a few parts with the hyobag - things like switchgear.

    That's a false dichotomy.

Unemployment is currently at record low levels in NZ. Your mate does not have to be a courier rider to feed his children.
