The thing that astonished me about this is that on this twisty road this person felt it necessary to not only overtake the cyclists on one wheel, but they had oncoming. Namely me, with my son following on his bike. Now I realise that this road might provide a great deal of fun for bikes if you have the road pretty much to yourself but this persons action were moronic. My leisurely pace was for the benefit of the young rider behind me, not for some prat to say to "ooooohhhh goody, a nice tight gap for me to squeeze past these pedal pushers and between the two oncoming motorbikes".
If it was an accident and the hand slipped on the throttle then that is bad enough, but if it was deliberate then whoever it was is an arsehole. If it was someone in KB land then SHAME ON YOU; if any of the riders in that group is a member of KB and knows that idiot, pass on my to them. If you are someone I know and like, then SHAME ON YOU, your actions were still moronic.
p.s. if those bicyclists didn't shit themselves when motorised a-hole hooned past then they must have either nerves or balls of steel.
    Yet another act of stupidity.
Sorry to hear about you and peter's bad experience mate, try not to let it get you guys down from other outings.
I hope that shit doesn't happen when we're out next,

I'd say those bicyclists definately have balls of steel, either that or they've seen this type of moronic behaviour all too often!

Hey mate, i nearly texted you to see if you wanted to come this morning. The ride was totally unplanned - we just jumped on and went; wish i had asked you to come along! I'd say that anyone who travels that road frequently will have seen their fair share of knobhead behaviour by a variety of specimens (cage, bike, pedestrian....) Will pm you later to arrange our next ride - and hopefully we won't see any idjits!!

You know, you could just send katman flowers if you want him to put out, rather than going for the 'public sycophancy' approach.

er, um, not quite sure of your point there.
My main problem with the wheelie was that it was coming in my direction on the road - a narrow road for that matter. I'd have still felt sorry for the cyclists but if the lane I was in had been empty I might have had a different perspective on the matter. Or are you telling me that not only are we invisible to cagers but even other bikers consider each other invisible too?
p.s. I don't think I've ever sent my brother flowers for anything and as for him putting out...well you must be a sick man then......if you are sick then maybe I should sent the flowers as a get well for you.

Or maybe it was the dude who pulled the wheelie, and he's/she's offended that someone thinks he's/she's a complete twat of riding like a dickhead...*god forbid that people get angry when someone pulls a wheelie on the wrong side of the road with oncoming - sarcasm meter breaks lol*. Maybe..it's just a theory...let me do some calculations lol

Um, just to clarify in case I hadn't made it obvious : "into oncoming"; the "oncoming" was me and my son.

You know, a moment's inattention from the rider due to a woman in short shorts and tight tank top on the other side of the road would probably have been far more dangerous to you and your son than that wheelie was.

But you wouldn't have noticed his shift in perception and lack of focus.

And then when he crashed into you it would have been a Sad Accident (tm).

Invisibility of other riders mostly depends on proximity of UnderdressedHawtChikz (tm), as vifferman would put it.

    Also hangovers.

Coming back from Burt Munro last Nov we (and a couple of cars in front) were overtaken by a biker riding at an insane speed, probably in excess of 200kph, screaming bike, wet road, in the run-up to Mataura township. We were at about 110 and this guy didn't even slow down to go thru the town (where the speed limit was 50kph) and I still don't know if he made it to his destination alive, whoever he was.

Sadly, there's always someone on a bike that earns us all the undeserved reputation of "biker = loose canon". Even if you could get hold of these shit-for-brains tosspots to ask them what the f**k they were trying to prove, you'd probably only get a vacant stare or a defensive volley of abuse for your trouble. Some people - and thank God they're in the minority - will always ride like tossers, and its usually always about showing off. How boring.

Just a thought. Maybe it's a mixture of Risk Homeostasis and the F*** You affect.

    Risk Momeostasis is defined thus:
When the level of acceptable risk in one part of the individual's life changes; there will be a corresponding rise/drop in acceptable risk elsewhere.
People that have a high level of acceptable risk will find it where they can. One of the few activities that provides that risk today is high speed driving i.e. driving too fast for the conditions, not jsut outright numerical speed.

The F*** You affect is a responce to over regulation and the constriction of freedom where no just cause exists.

Combine these two factors in varying degrees and you have the hoons that we're all complaining about. The problem is that there will always be hoons (and who they are depends very much on who you are, where you are and when you last had lunch with Zaphod Beeblebrox).

Hoons are just a natural part of the human condition. The sooner we accept this the sooner we can start taking responsibility for our own level of saftey/risk and leave others to do the same.
"Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." - Benjamin Franklin (1706-90)

"I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending to much liberty than those attending too small a degree of it." - Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826)

"Motorcycling is not inherently dangerous. It is, however, EXTREMELY unforgiving of inattention, ignorance, incompetence and stupidity!" - Anonymous

Think about it Ixion. Bicyclist swerves slightly as their head turns to see what is howling up behind them, wheel standing motorcyclist (read fuckwit) tries to take evasive action, loses control and slams headlong into oncoming motorcyclist. And don't say it would never happen - people on here only need to cast their minds back.
