You need to define more things.

How much space do you need. Some faciliites are cheap for large unit (eg whole houselots) but dear for storing a few cartons (or don't offer anything suitable). Others the reverse.

Do you need covered loading and unloading?

Can you get the stuff in a goods lift (upstairs units are usually cheaper).

How heat sensitive is it. Some units can get VERY hot. How water /condensation sensitive. Some external access units (ie door opens to outside world) will allow water to beat in (usually have a roller garage door type door). Some internal units, mould and mildew can be a BIG problem. You can get atmospherically controlled units but they cost big dollars?

Will you be storing things like bikes that might leak? Some facilities are REAL hot about this. Some won't allow anything flammable to be stored (eg bikes with fuel tanks, motormowers)?

Does any of the stuff need to have access to electricity (eg a bike battery needing charging) ?

How much can you tight store stuff . That is, can you pack the unit up solid, or will you need to get at some of it sometimes. Or need shelving ?

And, what do you need in the way of security ? Ranges from just "You put a padlock on the door", to monitored, controlled and recorded access. How anal are you prepared to be about them demanding ID when you access the unit.

And when do you need access? Some facilities are 24 x 7. You can access any time but very few are actually staffed 24 x 7, it's a pin number or swipe card access, so that is less security. If you want staff to verify ID before any access then you will need to settle for more 8 till 5 times.

Like everything else, you pay for what you get. Older . Shabbier facilities can be good value, they're usually cheaper and often just as good. And facilities on the outskirts of the city are naturally cheaper than those in the CBD.

Yellow pages and telephone are your friends.

    EEP!

I wont be storing anything which has a petrol tank, my piano is probablly the most sensitive to the atmosphere due to expansion and contraction of strings, I will find a temporary home for the rest of my instruments as I dont want them to be stored would rather have them being used....

Most of the gear is just household items and furniture...I have at the moment a 2 bedroom flat full of stuff plus garage.

The "jungle telegraph" told of an incident some years ago...
A person/persons rented a very small unit in one of the larger storage buildings, then cut through the chicken wire separating the enclosures and proceeded to pilfer their way through the whole building.

Oh. I forgot a really important point. Check your insurance and advise them. Some companies will not cover you when your goods are in storage. And the storage facility will not insure your property
