Had an interesting chat re m/cs today

Just had the WOF done on the 550 today, passed but have to get a stamp on the braided brakelines for next time. Talking to the VTNZ guy, who happened to be a Police vehicle (m/cs and cars) mechanic in his past life so knows his stuff, made the an observation that m/cs are dearer to maintain in the long term than cars. This I personally agree with. Your thoughts.

I'm constantly spending on my bike but the cars don't get much atentsion.
Bikes seem to be higher in the consumables,Tyres,chains,cables ect.Plus their more exposed to the elements.Then you fall off

I used to replace a pair of tyres on my bike every 3500 to 4000km at an average cost of $500 a set. I'd probably only use $400 worth of fuel in the same period.

So whenever I went for a cruise, I'd be thinking "I just put 12 bucks gas in and wore $15 off my wraps"

Bikes cost a fortune.

Yep we had this discussion many months back and I said I realised this years ago, hence I only use my bikes as toys for fun, no point using them for transport - cheap cars are the go for that, though many will say that cheap scooters are really cheap as well. Just don't bother thinking sports bikes or high performance dirt bikes will be cheap to run - on a per km basis they are not.

Built for different purposes,a bike is a leasure vehicle these days,not built for the long haul day in day out duties.Find a bike made for hard work and compare it to a car made for occasional leasure use,could be the same result in reverse.

when ya think what we pay for oil, its quite amazing... how many cage owners change their oil as often as we do??? and they can get their oil at a supermarket for $12 or somethin stupid!!!

I think if you look at each as a piece of transport then yes, bikes cost more. But then if you owned a car that was in the same state of tune - you'd probably be spending more on the car.

on my old bikes, if it wore out a tyre, i'd just get another bike!
