Any hints or tips....

Hello. Just can't seem to shut me up.

I am taking my bike up to Gisborne from Welly on December the 1st, leaving at about 4pm. Any hints and tips for the trip. The bike will be out of the shop on the 1st from its first servicing.

I am always after good hints to help keep myself and the bike well. I mean, I have doen the trip before on my KR250 2 smoker, and that was not a very pleasant trip.

Also. I have a habit of naming all the big items I own, however, I have not managed to come up with a name for my bike, your ideas would be great!

If you're travelling during the heat of the day, take on liquids each time you fill your bike.

Good luggage is to be encouraged. If you haven't already got a tank bag, get one. The Oxfords are the best.

Don't wear a backpack.

Stay off the main roads as much as possible (not many options here going from Wellington to Gisborne).

Watch out for the terrain by the pump if you decide to refuel at Tutira.

Ride within yourself and stop if you get tired.

The most important peice of advice I can give you: have a great time

Definitely get a tank or tail bag.

If you don't take long trips a lot then make sure you stop and stretch lots, before you're in pain or feeling sleepy is always a good idea, although I gret the feeling you're an experienced rider.

And it's been a couple of years since I got my tankbag and, being a senile old fart, I can't remember how much it cost. I think it was in dollars rather than pounds, but.

Get one of those stretchy cargo net things to hold your backpack on to your rear seat, I've seen them at most bike shops for around $24.

well I give nicknames to everything too, but not all of them particularly complimentary, ( just ask my family members lol), as for the trip up to gisborne from welly, just take it in stages, and stop if you get tired or sore, if you are stuck for somewhere to stay we are 35 minutes north of gisborne and can put ya up if needs be. definately drink plenty of liquids, it's so easy to get dehydrated and that can cause you to lose concentration and become fatigued quicker than anything else
