Cool, so when Cajun and I have kids we won't need to do anything with them because the government is going to do all the parenting for us. Thanks Helen!

So it was better before Hitler so must be better now??

I don't think the Nazi Regime can teach us anything.....it is bad history....

There is no such thing as "bad history". Throw a dart at a time line and there'll be something to learn from where it lands.

"Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it." - George Santayana
"Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." - Benjamin Franklin (1706-90)

"I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending to much liberty than those attending too small a degree of it." - Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826)

But without a view to history all ideas are new.

There are two ways to learn - from our own experience or from that of others.

If something has been tried before it's extremely beneficial to look back and learn from that experience - no matter how long ago it was tried.

With specific reference to the rise of the Nazi regime we can look back and examine the warning signs so that we can make sure it never happens again.

There's an easy test for that. A five second look at the parents will give you a fair idea. Assuming there's two of them...
It's only when you take the piss out of a partially shaved wookie with an overactive 'me' gene and stapled on piss flaps that it becomes a problem.

Some history we want to repeat, some we don't. I suppose you could categorise history as good or bad in this way. I prefer to look at all history as a potential lesson, one way or another.

Understandable, in your case. I wouldn't want to see it coming either.

Admittedly without him, Germany would be nothing today. And the US would be the biggest cocks in the world.

Peter the Great was arguably the most enthusiatic social engineer.

I have said it before and I will say it again...

if parents had to "apply" for permission to have children in the first place with un-planned preggies being made an offence.

Parents are then interviewed and screened - to make sure they are mentally stable and financially able to support a child.

...but there goes your human rights!!!!!

I reckon it will happen eventually, what with overpoopulation etc
