I went for a cruise to Mercer today and feck me, what a frustrating trip. No fun at all.

The whole way there and home was spoilt by aholes driving in the fast (right) lane at 95ks. I'd cruise up behind them, and they just sit there. Even with multiple opportunities to pull into the left lanes.

I also noted that they were often travelling at the same speed as the left lanes?

I could see them looking in their mirrors, so I knew they knew I was there.

Flashing my headlights made no difference at all.

The up shot was having to do the, swing left, pass and swing right again in front of them.

2 Question for those of you who have got their licenses recently.

1) Was there any courtesy sections in the training or tests?
2) What is the law for this?

All up probably only about 5 let me past, so I gave them a wave.

Open road speed limit is 100kms no matter what lane your using.

End of story.

Road code does say on a multilane road you should keep to the left hand lane as much as possible unless passing or unless the lefthand lane is full or unless your turning right.

95kms aint a bad speed to travel at, just blow on by if you wanna go faster.

Trouble is lots of people mistakenly think the righthand lane can routinely be used for speeding when plainly this is not the case.

Iv'e been on that bloody southern Auckland motorway doing 100kms in the left hand lane and had the lights flash and the finger waved.

It seems to be the Auckland way.

Nup. I have seen them in the UK, there a 100MPH is the fast lane speed in places with a 70MPH limit......


But in NZ most people on the MW dont even travel at 100, so if you want to go slower stay out of the "100" lane we shall call it.

Just do what the Harley guys in Christchurch do - fat down the middle between both cars (irrespective of the speed they are doing) open drag pipes roaring. I've seen this many a time recently over Christmas.

Makes up for all those times when I am to vulnerable to deal with those twurps that endanger others, and should not be allowed to drive anything bigger or faster then a shopping trolley....

I believe most driving skills are learnt in a supermarket, whilst pushing a trolley. This theory goes some way to explain the kiwi driver. It is, however, lacking on the area where fuckers stop and leave their trolley in the middle of the aisle though... More results as they come to hand.
It is all about simple courtesy on the road...

Apropos of this, I went for a pootle today up to hilltop and back, left here about 4pm.

Most unsatisfactory, far too much traffic.

the best was coming back, there was a Previa/Lucida van with a bunch of people in it, doing 65kph when the limit was 100, and braking if the advisory sign said 65, 0r 55. there were 26 cars/other vehicles behind this.

about 10 minutes up the road there was ANOTHER one!!!!

18 cars behind that one. I presume some tourist or other loopy out doing the "scenic Christchurch" tour. Un believable.

Bet they wondered why when I went past them I smacked their mirror with my hand. I dont usually indulge in behaviour like that but....

and yet because I exceeded 100kph when passing, I'm dangerous? Yup, I can see that, totally.

I understand her rationale but it's only going to encourage those "fast" people to pass somewhere where it isn't safe. I'm a firm believer that slow drivers contribute to a lot of accidents because their ignorance and lack of consideration infuriates other drivers so much that they in places they normally wouldn't.

I wish they would get out of the bloody way, but they never do. I personally find it more frustrating in town than I do on the open road.

I regularly travel down Cameron Road (Tauranga), and as you're no doubt aware, this place is full of old codgers in their motorised shopping carts.

It's absolutely frustrating to sit behind some old geezer who's only doing 40kph when the posted speed limit is 50. Of course the car in the other lane is only doing 38kph so overtaking takes about 50 light years. It'd be nice to overtake eventually except Cameron Road has either a roundabout or set of lights every four (ish) blocks. Typically, you get stopped at these every time you can almost go around the slug in front of you

And we wonder why bikers tend to between these cars

Seriously, what's up with this thread? Are yous fullas suffering from amnesia in relation to the fact that motorcycles are shitloads narrower than cars and don't need so much road room to go around other vehicles? Certainly not a whole passing lane, anyway. That's just extravagant.

For sure, providing you are on a bike at the time, some of us do have to drive cars occasionally, as much as I'd love to be able to fit a Mazda between two slow moving cars, I really don't know if I should.

Believe it or not, there was actually a suggestion in the UK that pensioners with time on their hands be employed to drive around at or below the speed limit to slow everyone else down...

Depends when you drive...mid week motorways in the UK are probably quite intimidating to the newbie but they are infact chock full of high milage truckies and reps who now exactly what they, and everyone else is doing (even if it is simulateously driving, eating, map reading and talking on the phone).

It all goes to hell on the weekend when the amateurs get out there...can you tell I'm a rep?
