    Insurance for first bike?

    I'm seeking insurance for my first bike - a 2005 Yamaha SR 250 (< $3,000). Is there a recommended insurance company for motorcycles? I'm 22 years old, learner's license, with a history of 2 claims in the past (both of which the other driver was found at fault and fully liable). I've got a competitive quote from Kiwibike (found them on Google) - are these guys a decent company?

    Cheers.

    edit: Should qualify that the 2 claims I've made were on a car, with Tower, over 2 years ago, and with a full car license.

    Star Insurance did me well when I actually had a working bike.... Great to deal with as well.

    Kiwibike are definatly good people to insure your wheels.

    I insured my bike, got knocked off and made a claim - they were extreemly helpful, thoughtful, and all the rest. Got my claim though in no time. Can't reccomend them enough.

    Kiwibike offered an extremely competitive quote, so I've ordered through them. A quick search tells me they generally look after their customers. I'm surprised how cheap the cover is for a 22 year old learner - only a hair over $300.

    I've been on my restricted for a few months now and I'm 21. Got a quote for my new ZXR250 (1989, $4000 value) through Kiwibike for $281 premiums PA. Only problem is my excess will be $1250, $250 for accident. This will go down by $500 when I turn 25 and another $500 when I get my full. This is by far the lowest quote I've got for premiums but the excess makes me a little nervous seeing the bike is only worth $4000.

    Any suggestions?

    With a low priced bike you should ask how much just for 3rd party? I am willing to take the risks that if its my fault and I stuff up and bend my bike and it will cost me. If I bin into a new BMW or Merc I am covered and I have a bike that bounces quite well anyway.

    Insurance is gambling - so - do you feel lucky!

    I use Swann Insurance; http://www.swanninsurance.co.nz/
    Not at all expensive and a good bunch of features, like pickup for breakdowns - that sorta stuff. They quote online after you fill out a form and if you accept it then you are covered from that moment.

    Here is the form;
