LilSel & Fireballs's Anniversary Day Ride

Well this morning we woke up and decided that we would take my bike out for a cruise... So we headed on over to my place, got the ZZR out and gave her a wash.

Didnt have any idea about where to go etc... So just started riding... First of all we ended up the top of Mt Wellington for a Redbull & ciggie break.
As it was really windy up there, it was nice & cool & a perfect place to get our gear off... lol!

I decided that we would do a mountain ride & go up the summit of the Auckland volcano's.... So off we headed to the next stop, One Tree Hill...
Once again nice n breezy up there... Stood around for a while scanning the horizon for which mountain was next... ah the big one!!!...

Off we trotted to Mt Eden.... lots of tourists up there!! Enjoyed the view & the cool breeze

Now comes the stink part of todays brief outing....

My speedo stopped working.... 'Odd' I thought to myself... decided we should bring my bike home to pull it apart to find out what the issue was... onto the motorway.... Was keeping up with the flow of traffic as I wasnt entirely sure of how many revs=how much speed... all was fine... then... the traffic kinda thinned out to nothing... so I just kept on honking along... checked rev's in top gear... thought to myself hmmm.... thats quite high... didnt feel fast... even so, changed lanes n buttoned off a bit to be on the safe side (cant afford a fine!)

Got home & took front cowling off to get behind the dash bits (lol)... unscrewed the speedo/odo bit (things are just bits to me)... put bike up on centre stand & spun the front wheel... nothing... hmmmm pulled the square bit on the end of the cable... and..... it slid right on out!!!!.... SNAPPED!!!
Bugger!!!! took the other end off n slid that end out too... looks like it snapped pretty much in the middle....

Question.... For a new cable... (just the inside springy bit)... Does it have to be specific to my bike??? or is it kind of like a universal thing??

Totally not looking forward to no rides till I can find a new cable n get it back together!!!! Lucky however that Miss Kitty didnt take my bike out today... as it would've snapped on her!!! Must have been on its way out?!

So its not quite 4pm... & our day of cruising has come to an abrupt end... STINK!!!

Any advice on where I can get a new cable would be much appreciated.

You can speedo cables made for you for bout 70 bucks if you can't find one in the stores. The zzr is a pretty well known bike so should be easy to get a cable for it. I found out a lot of suzuki bikes have different cables. Pretty stupid you'd think they would manufacture them all the same.

Btw, you wern't coming out of the Lincoln Rd bowling place yeasterday a.m. about 10ish? There seemed to be a gaggle of people doing just that, and one had a shirt with something like a NZ team name.
Felt silly asking her if she knew a "LilSel"...

I've learnt to hide the pain inside, open the throttle and ride away.

I got a new speedo cable (inner and outer) for the katana 250 for 50 bucks from japan. Ring up local dealer, if no help ring up underwood and wilkens (will send you a PM with number if needed) and they should be able to find one for ya.
