Did my first stoppie...

as per title,

I did my first stoppie on tuesday.
quite nice angle and control etc.
unfortunaly it was right into the side of some ignorant tit in a cage.

the cage decided to pull into the gas station from the oncoming lane without looking up the second lane he had to cross.

was on my white bike with the headlights on
I was already slowing down for a red light so just hobbled away with a bung leg.
was at such an angle that the front wheel never hit, just hit on the front fairing/windscreen area, so no fork/chassis i think.

now i get to go through the whole insurance drama.
not gonna give much away there as im paranoid of the moral entity that is State Insurance.

I've had a rediculous amount of close calls like this with people not looking, or worse, looking and pull rank on you anyway.

He wasn't too forward with admitting liability so I invited the cops and he scored a careless driving charge & liability

now im hobbling around, swearing and looking like a drunken sailor who's just broken his peg leg.

could have been worse so im kinda stoked with my initial low speed and reactions on the brakes.

its a cbr250, any advice on getting a valuation and who to get repair quotes from??

Well that's a bit of a bum really innit!

The insurance thing might depend on how much the repairs are going to be. If it's a new bike, the only place I'd take it is the franchise dealer - I'd probably take it to the Honda guys even if its second hand. If it's less than your excess, don't claim. How much damage is there?

hes at fault and therfore his insurance will be sorting things out.
should be a front subframe, front fairing, winscreen, mirrors, indicators, engine side cover, and some repairs to the side fairings.
biggest concern is paint and decals but i've never had to source them before and may not be as bigga drama as i think

Problem - Appently they don't 'repair' fairings, instead they just buy new ones.
It might be a write off at the end of the day if the fairings are worth alot, what isn't such a bad thing for you because you can probably buy the bike off the insurance company for cheap cheap cheap.

Then take the broken fairing to a surff bord maker or boat builder and get them to make you some new ones for 'cash'

Hmmm ... that damage list is a little more than just a wee bump. Quallman's right, they price it all on replacement stuff and that usually ends up in a writeoff. They were going to write min off because it had a dent in the tank FFS. Good sense prevailed and it was repaired brilliantly.
