    moving bikes...help please

    hi,

does anyone know of the best company to freight a bike from wellington to nelson? i had a look in the yellow pages, but didn't find any that sounded like they did bikes, only national parcels, and international crates.

I think most land freight companies, ie mainfreight, freightways, etc... will be able to transport it for you as long as you can tie it down securely to a palette.
If not, you will probably have to arrange a more specialist (read: expensive) form of custom bike transport. The other thing to do is talk to your local bike shop and ask them for advice = they may even transport it for you.

Smile check out the cost of the ferries

Get someone to bring it on the ferry and then ride it down to you at Nelson.... then give them a lift back to the ferry and they go back to wellington...

so you will need to know someone in Wellington....

Or better still you make a day trip back up to collect it yourself...
Nelson to the picton ferry cant be that far away....

But put your own strops on the bike.... dont rely upon the ferries strops..... and tie it up yourself on the ferry....

So contact the ferries and check out the costs all round....

    Good luck

Try transporters, like the ones that move cars around car yards. When I got mine brought down from Napier to Wellington I got it chucked on one run by A1 cos I knew the guy from Napier. Got dropped in Nauranga gorge. I think they might be runnign in conjunction with tow services so if you can't find them in the Yellow pages try ringing the tows.
    good luck

id go with ridin it. Get the plane to welly then the ferry back and its only a 2hr trip from picton to nelson. Pass by blenheim of course on the way
