There are many "urban myths" about devices containing batteries. Usually along the lines that they are incredibly safe and completely incapable of producing a spark that may ignite surrounding combustible gases. The reality is that they can, and do. Not often, but enough for people with vested interests in preventing large explosions (e.g. fuel companies, coal mines) to place constraints on their presence or use.

For fuck's sake. You people are seriously saying you can't go 10 minutes on a service station forecourt without being overcome by some pathological urge to ring somebody up or send them a text? Get over yourselves.

It's a bit like the twats who remain seated on their bikes while refilling them moaning that petrol companies would prefer them not to and may have spoken to them in this regard, while pointing out the relevant warning signage.

If people want to kill or maim themselves by their own stupidity in a location where the wellbeing and property of others is not jeopardised, that should be their right. In all other circumstances they should live their lives with care and respect for others.

What have you found? The same old fears.
