I am waiting for our local police and a police officer friend to make enquiries of the Haast police before I decide what action I can pursue.

Meanwhile any incidents that any other KBr's have experienced in the Hawea/Haast/Fox/Franz Joseph area, mainly Haast, would be appreciated.

The power of our KB network could be of great benefit in helping to get rid of this potential threat to our lives on an otherwise beautiful piece of biker heaven.

There may already be a pattern emerging of the offending groups behaviour in the area. Cheers John.

Gosh, this sounds really grim. I guess I have been a bit naive, but until I started reading kb I never realised there were maniacs in other vehicles who would target bikers on the road. For a while I put it down to the general road rage stuff that seems particularly present in big cities.

I hope to God I never encounter or somehow "provoke" one of these monsters on the road. I love riding, and am aware that it has a darker, dangerous side in terms of personal risk, but I hate realising that the darker side is growing due to some creeps with bad ideas/attitudes.

Best of luck sorting this out, and thanks on behalf of all of us other bikers for trying to remove a menace from our roads.

I hope whatever they have done (or are doing) then it doesn't result in serious harm or death

    Good luck sorting them out

    It does happen.
Many years ago at a NZ National Enduro at Paihatua a crazyfuck was driving up and down the road at the top of the Tararuas - aiming at the riders. If my memory serves me right he ended up breaking a guys leg. Someone may remember it a bit better than me. The rider with the broken leg was a pretty good MXer.

Good luck John with your efforts. You will almost certainly save someone from serious injury. Or worse.
It's OK to disagree with me. I can't force you to be right.

I remember you were still pretty shaken at the rally John.
You're doing the right thing pushing it, even if you didn't hear of any other incidents.
It's only through complaints that the cops can see a pattern and decide to act.

key would be description of the vehicle and plate number. Bit hard to get if you are fighting to stay alive I know.

a guy I know was knocked off a pushbike by a SUV towing a caravan a week or so back. broken collarbone, munted bike. Brakelights came on, then the guy just buggered off.

Good news is the pleece are treating it as hit and run, and they believe they know who it was.

He hopefully is in the shit majorly when they catch up. Hit and run, injury accident, leaving the scene, dangerous driving causing injury, etc etc.

    good luck.

There is bugger all cellphone reception for miles around Haast, so *555 might not show up much at all. Good luck getting it sorted.

Hope you get some action on this.
Yeah, there are a lot of fools who do target riders. On my cycle I get it a lot - but the worst incident (which I might start of thread on later) was on scenic drive a few weeks ago when some kids leant of their car to actually punch me. I was on the edge of a drop too. Laugh? I nearly died. (no, I was not injured).

Good luck getting a result on this, John. It sounds as tho it has the potential to be really nasty.
Be careful out there, especially if you happen to be in the Haast area, folks.

You still haven't told us what happened and therefore what to be on our guard against. Are you hoping someone else will get hit to prove your point? p.t.

There is logic in withholding particulars on this issue in order to ensure any reports are accurate, without words being put in anybody's mouth, which will assist in a prosecution. Let the post run it's course, lest it results in an outcome that is not desireable.

Heading south out of Greymouth last Labour Weekend My son had a slow high side on the second road rail bridge (wet)
While we were there (fixing bike) a car load of youths came up behind two other cars giving way to vechicles at the other end of the one lane bridge.
Youths decided they weren't waiting and took off past the two cars onto the bridge they got most of the way over. The driver of the bus at the other end must have seen what happened and wasn't having any of it, he pulled onto the bridge and made them back all the way off.

Must say it brightened up our day. lol

i hate one way bridges with a vengence, and i almost always come to a complete stop no matter who has right of way. at the very least ill slow to a crawl until i can see if the way is clear, even as far as no oncoming vehicles up the road that might not stop.

when i was down last year, i do recall a tourist bus ignored the right of way and just barreled straight on. had i not stopped, i would have been mush. cant remember where it was though... somewhere between wanaka and hokitika. [o yeh, i had right of way...]
