Off in search of new adventures!

Well, April 4th is going to be a momentous day as that date is my last full day of full employment before semi-retiring! Mrs B and I both reached 60 last year and whilst we’re in good nick, it’s time to do a lot more of the “fun” things and a whole lot less of the boring and irrelevant stuff that gets lumped on us by others. Life is pretty busy at present mentoring my successor at work and getting our house in Tokoroa organised for putting on the market in a few weeks’ time. (Anyone want to buy a 5 bedroom house in the central north island for ~$300,000???) The bedrooms of our long-departed kids have taken on Tardis-like qualities when it comes to getting rid of their junk.

The plan is to move permanently to Coromandel and ride (a lot), fish, kayak, travel and other good stuff. Oh yes, and a bit of consulting to keep me from getting under Mrs B’s feet! Sitting in front of a computer will be way down on my list of priorities so posting on Kiwi Biker will be taking a real back seat too, starting in the next few days. Nonetheless, we’d both love to see the KB’ers that we’ve either had the absolute privilege to meet in person or corresponded with over the years so PM me if you’re planning on being up that way, there will always be a warm welcome. If you look at the photo taken looking over the rear of our place, you’ll see a scar up the hill to the left in the background. That’s the famous Coro Hill road and we’re only 5 minutes from there so no excuse for not calling in!

    Cheers,

    Geoff

ScorpyGirl and I hope that you both enjoy your new found "leisure time." Keep the 'Bird humming along.

Would love to catch up next time we are over there.

    Cheers, Maryanne & Paul.

All the very best for your future Geoff.
From what I have seen recently, with a workmate retiring, the job offers will come in thick and fast.

Hope you weren't thinking that you were going to be relaxing!

A rather stressful view from your place as well.

Congratulations Blackbird, well deserved I'm sure. I'm doing something similiar this year, so can totally relate. We 'overnight' up that way from time to time, so will get you down for a beer (and to meet!) sometime, take it easy

Good on ya Geoff, all the best for your semi-retirement plans and the future, the Coromandel is a great place to retire to. May you continue riding for many years.

Lucky guy! Hope everything goes smoothly. Moving to the Coromandel to fish, kayak, ride, travel... is this why people work themselves to the bone for decades?

What a view in that photo.

    Have fun

Thanks very much indeed for the good wishes everyone. It actually feels quite surreal to be semi-retiring as mentally, I don't feel any different from when I was a teenager (ahem, Jennie would confirm that). Even physically, the important bits still work ok so that makes it seem doubly odd!

However, I've had friends who have never had the opportunity to enjoy their later years because of something unexpected lurking round the corner so retiring now is the right decision for me.

Catch you on the road or in Coro - don't be shy about PM'ing me!

    Geoff
