My Next Bike ??? - FZ6-

Well I have looked at the R6, but to be realistic, I think its more bike than I will ever want. I feel it may get me into some serious trouble, and a bit to much of the go fast machine for me. I have settled on another Yamaha model the FZ6. What is peoples thoughts on how this bike handles and the power delivery. As I maybe coming to one of these sooner rather than later. (Yes that means the mighty FZR 250 maybe up for sale shortly, (maybe)).

Do you mean FZR600 or YZF600 (thundercat)? I've ridden the R6. Yes, you can't treat it as lightly as you can with your 2 fiddy but it's a really nice and easy bike to ride (for a 600). You just have to be sensible with it and you'll be fine. Once your more skilled, you can be less sensible (if you want). I'd say it's a lot eaiser to ride than the previous models (FZR600 and the thundercat) cause it's a lot lighter and there have been vast improvements made in the handeling as well. Trust me, I've ridden them all. From the 90' FZR 600 to the 04 R6.

The issue here is money really.

The R6 is a nice bike to ride, had half a day riding one, plenty of power and easy to ride, But got sore arms after a little while. Apart from that I liked it.

Motoracer it is the FZ6 the little brother of the FZ1 (basically a naked version of the R1 and R6, but tuned for more mid range power and apparently more forgiving handling) I feel for the type of riding I see myseld doing this will be more suitable. I would love to think of myself as a Twosmoker or a Motoracer. But to be honest I enjoy cruising along and just enjoying the odd corner at a little more pace than norm. Everyone I speak to says the same thing about the R6 (dont get me wrong I luv the bike) "It just wants to go faster, the faster you go the better it handles" etc etc. I want a bike that I can take thru a corner and smile all the way and put a little power on and still be smiling with a little excitment. Not the bike I go into the corner put a little power on and come out the other side crying like a baby and looking for a change of undies. I get the impression with the R6 that it goes great as long as ride it aggresively, with a certain amount of respect. Dont get me wrong I do think its a great bike, but I am big enough and old enough to admit it maybe more bike than I want. I may well get myself in a mess and in a ditch if Im not carefull with it. Its hard to portral what Im trying to get across. The FZ6 is no slouch, just a little more milder and more usable power for what I want. mid range etc.

Sounds to me that the FZ6 will suit more "real world" riding than the R6 would Judderbar.

The FZ6 has been a HUGE seller over in Europe and probably for good reason.

If you can get over the look of the front end - I for one like it - then it would appear to be an excellent bike.

In the real world where you are lucky if you can do more than 150 on the road without getting snapped, you are more likely to actually use the power of the bike.

Plus, ergonomically-wise, its a much more sensible option.

Trouble is, how many of us choose our motorcycles with out heads? Its usually an emotional attachment we get from the bike, partly reinforced by our perceptions (wrongly or rightly deserved) of the the brand.

I reckon its a great choice. But I've never ridden one.

I have the FZ1, a 'slightly detuned' R1 motor. has more handling and power than I could ever hope to exceed. I would suggest that the FZ6 would be similar. Have a look at the www.yamahafz1oa.com/forum site and there is an FZ6 section. The Americans (and English) are decerning people so it will be interesting to see what they say.

Speaking of moving up, I was wondering was getting a GSX250 or a Bonneville then a GSXR600 a good way to work up?

Fare enough man. I just got confused cause I always have a habbit of calling it the Fazzer 6 hundy.

I haven't ridden it personally but I have heard great things about it. Goodluck with it!

Rode a FZ6 the other day, really nice and comfy to ride. The R6 is a really really nice bike to have a ride on, personally I would choose it over the FZ6, but reading back over the thread its sort of all up to personal preference isnt it? :cool2:

I recall reading somewhere that the previous model, the Fazer 600 (with the thundercat engine) had better midrange than the the FZ6 (with the R6 engine).

If midrange is what you're looking for, I reckon you ought to at least try some v-twins: e.g. SV650, SV1000, VTR1000F - the 650 should be around the same price. You won't be disappointed!

Well I have never got myself in trouble with it (the 01 model i'm talking about)......then again I probably ride like a girly, but whats so wrong with that....It comes down to self control
if you can exercise it and to give it stick in the right places or on the track

As for touring, I did 2 weeks in the South Island on it.....was a bit hard on the back- wouldn't recommend it for that sort of touring.
