I told the missus I was just gonna pop out and pick up a bit of gear on my bike,

    Off I went to Quasimoto.

    In Hamilton.

Unfortunately, by the time I got back, I didn't have time to mow the lawns like I said I would.

Friend Rob would ring and ask if i wanted to go for a ride , Yeah ok im doin nuffin anyhow was the normal answer.
Off we go and the lady would say as we exited the garage , "see you soon " well not on your life girlie lol.
We did ring her though just after dark , "hi Honey , we are beat and staying the night at Nigels house "
Dosnt Nigel live in Auck she asks , Yer thats rite.

I dunno why i lived on the edge like that but i did it all the time.
I recon it was Rob's fault , hes a very bad influence on me

I sometimes turn a 25k commute home into a 250k long way home.
Its never planned and because its that way it always ends up a bloody great evening and I arrive home feeling quite refreshed.
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face.

I've done this a few times too, I guess its what ridings all about, feeling the urge and going for it. Back in the day I took the Sawyers demo SP-1 home for the night and popped out to pick something up from the supermarket - next thing it was after 3am and I still wasn't home - just having too much fun. Went through a few tanks of gas though, lucky it was cheap back then, wouldn't want to try that these days!

Got some leave coming up so I might point the bike north and see where I end up!

Used to do that sort of thing when I was young and irresponsible, but still did it when I was old and irascible. Now I might do it when I just forget where the hell I was going....

A few years ago I went for a short ride and ended up about 4 hours from home.My wife doesn't care where I go or what time I get back - but I had one of these mobile phones, and thought I might use this new texting thing to tell her where I was.So I managed to put in ''I am in....'' - and then it appears I sent only that.So then she was left wondering if I was in....trouble,jail,hospital,in deep shit...? So now I just go and come back....go somewhere, come back sometime, that's what riding is for me.

I do this quite a lot. This time last year I went to Tauranga for an afternoon ride and ended up in Napier via East Cape. It took 17 hours door to door. I got back home just in time for the family to wake up.

Deep shit, if my girlfriend caught me in that situation

I often have fantasies about doing just that, but things like getting fired and people calling the police prey at the back of my mind. After I rid myself of this job, we'll see.

    Smile Many many years ago...

when I was single and lived in Stockholm (Sweden) I went out for a ride. Was a nice Saturday and felt really good, so decided to travel a little south to see if some frieds were at home. They lived 3 hours south. Got to their place, but nobody home. So I went for a ride to Oslo in Norway. I knew a girl who wanted me to come for a visit at some stage. When i got there I did find her place. But she was not at home. So I went back to Stockholm. That was a 24 hour round trip. Only other stops were for petrol, food and toilet. And it was middle of summer when sun only goes down below horizon for a few hours.

Suppose I could have given them all a ring. But not the same...

May the bridges I burn light the way.

Random Riding is what I love best about biking. Have seen a lot of NZ that way. Just hopping on my bike and going. No real plan. Just ride where the mood takes me.

My most favourite has to be two years ago taking a special person out for a "Afternoon Birthday Ride". Left her place in Tuaranga with the vage plan ta ride ta Turangi and poss stay the night there or return. Got Kuratau Junction and she said "Da ya like night riding?". Dam right I do when the mood is right and it was that night. So we headed ta National Park, catching awesome Sunset with the Mountains as we road. Got there and decided ta head to Taumarunui (don't know why, just felt right at the time). By 11am I was feeling a bit tired so we stopped at some rest area along SH4 before the Eight Mile Junction. There we slept under the stars in our Leathers (still rate that as the most romantic thing I've done in my life).
Next Morning we rode ta Te Kuiti and picked up a back road there threw Rangitoto, Rewarewa ta Otewa and back ta Otorohanga. From there we headed back ta Tuaranga (can't remember which way we when but we got back any how). Was a totally awesome ride with a totally awesome person. Can't ask for better than that

Often get texts from my flatmates "um, haven't seen you for a few days/weeks..."
