1/By the sound of it you have been talking about one track (Taupo ??) so before you throw that stopwatch into the distance; sit on your bike, or somewhere comfy, and lap the circuit in your mind, going only by the reference points you remember. You should be lapping at the same time as you do on the track, consistently, if not your main objective should be to relearn the track. 2/Suspension, go see Shaun, 3/When you improve, there are other riding techniques to gain more ground clearance.......but believe me you're not up to that yet, 4/ Frosty gives good advice and is one of the most helpful people you will ever meet, respect what he says

Serious question - How far away you braking into the corner?

Like are you still on yer brakes quite far into the corner?

Me thinks your taking to much of a tight line, hence more lean and a slower corner speed and a slow run out of the corner. - Explaining why your not getting Streetstock times yet.

Streetstock aint that fast you should be in the top 5-6 simply because your on the ZXR. At least with the RG's You learn to race properly.

If you wanna win streetstock, your doing the right thing by staying on the ZXR, But if you actually wanna learn something about racing jump on an RG or better yet a KRR150. Glen managed to win a nat round at ruapana on a KRR. - I was looking at a KRR before i got the RG's too bad i missed out on it .

First mark you have time on your hands, sort the shocks out on the bike and get them working well, i have sat on your 250 and boy does the shocks need a rebuild. Just this alone will improve your times and you will get alot more feed back from the track, will also improve your breaking aswell.
Drop me a Pm, i can help rebuild the fronts, done a couple times for my zxr250.

i need 1:57's and i'm getting 2 min flats and 2 min 2 second laps....

so it's really not gunna cut it i just can't figure out what i'm doing wrong.
If you are leaning more than someone who goes around the corners faster than you, then they must be using a BETTER LINE. Try to figure out the best lines through the corners. If you are getting slower lap time it could be because you are down on power, you get on the throttle later than they do out of corners and you might be braking too soon.

    Mark,
If you need somebody to explain it to you, you will probably never understand.

Give up this crazy infatuation with motorcycles and get a jetski, all tossers ride jetski's.

huh! you jsut dont fookn get it do you!
go buy a 400 racebike off trademe, then go to the track and just fuck around(you will probably be faster)

or if you want to waste yer hard earned money...
-get suspension, then you will max out them tyres before you get near scraping anything again.
-get a licence, im pretty sure you need them for trackdays.
-dont be a pussy when people tell you to come to the track and use suck excuses as "i don't have a bike" or "i dont have money" or...

    AND
just remember, leaning the bike is wayyyy more important then carrying corner speed...

Look at lines, If I can get BB's ZX14 round taupo at full pace without scraping shit, you can on a 2fiddy. Smoother = less lean.
Get yer top half off the side, not ya butt. You should be scraping yer elbow, not yer ass. Your whole helmet needs to be outside the fairing, you've got long arms, use 'em.
The trick to riding fast consistently is smoothness, nothing else. Work with the bike, not against it. Slow down a little and take a look at ya riding style, work out where and why you are scraping, even get someone to video ya. Then fix it.
Here's a couple of pics of the right style...
