Le Bons, Okains and Little Akaloa Bays' Ride (Banks P)

Cruisy day ride from Christchurch to Le Bons, Okains and Little Akaloa Bay's. Plan is to meet at Tai tapu Petrol Station at 9am on the 3rd February. Travel to Little River, up over southern hills to Wainui, round to Duvauchelle, up Robinsons Bay Stock Track (steep but can bypass on Okains Bay Road if you want), down to Le Bons Bay, over to Okains bay, over to Little Akaloa Bay, back to Duvauchelle then run over the hill home. Map of route attached.

If your keen and its hot bring ya togs - Okains has a decent beach.

    Cheers R

Yes, think i'm in, we did a lot of those areas on the first Canterbury Rides Shop Adventure. Been saying I'd like to do their route again. I should show you the route sheets from that ride sometime.

Count me in, subject to availability (and while stocks last). Now, which bike to take...?

I may be missing something here, you do know we are in the Adventure Forum, not the Off Road one, and that you need street legal to ride these roads...

I read that as he's getting a bike that's a bit to "roadie" for us macho adventurererers.

    He's getting a BMW!

    Blackbird should do nicely
Sometimes you wish it was easier, but if it was, everyone else would do it, then you remember you don't want to be like everybody else!

You can scoff, but I reckon I could do pretty much all of these roads on the Blackbird if it hadn't been raining immediately beforehand.... albeit slowly... and at some risk to my paintwork.

Other than the Robinsons Bay Stock Track prehaps, I'd say it's quite dooable.
I have had the old '91 CBR1000F up a few of those roads when I had it, it just felt a little mean to hear it shaking and groaning about like the bumps made it do.
Much more enjoyable on a bike designed to take the bumps without ratteling to bits, or creating stress fractures in the fairing.
