Just a bit of a rant to make me feel better.

-1 to the HD rider who felt he could use my lane to overtake in the Buller gorge. Maybe he thought that a Jap cruiser was not worthy of a lane of his own? He did manage to pull back right in front of the car he was overtaking before we met. Not happy.

And -1 to the bloody stupid red cage driver who decided to pull out from behind a campervan without spotting me in the opposite lane and too close to a blind corner to pass safely. Thankfully, he saw me and pulled back in time. Didn't even have time to wave a finger or two, though.

Now I'm sure you've all been through those sorts of things, and my post won't change a damn, but, hey, I feel better now .

The last time I rode quickly on the Coromandel, I had just dropped my pace by about 30% when a guy on a Buell coming the other way decided it would be a good idea to use my lane through a blind corner about 5 seconds before I entered it. At the next stop, Bugjuice and I commented on how lucky it was that I'd slowed down, and had a laugh about the idiot running himself off the road exiting the corner when he found he had to change his line.

As JRandom said, the only person who can look after you is You! Our deceased friends may watch over us, but they can't do shit to save us in the event of something going wrong. That's one of the disadvantages of dying

No doubt he was havin' problems keeping his shit in his own lane...such an awesum ride the "gorge", tis my home "track" ,but I find just about every time I ride it there's a wee moment usually somewhere either a cage cutting a cnr,camper van wobblin all over the place, the odd biker in a cnr with his torso in my lane... best one was a car pulled up in the middle of a blind cnr, right in the centre of our lane with drivers side rear door open protuding into the oncoming lane & a hitchhiker looking stunned as we sailed past millimeters from him...thankfully no oncoming or we'd be history...McGra & his horses arnt all that much fun either.

Ah the Buller.A great bit of road often ruined by the Loopies in mobile chicanes(campervans) and other tourist types who mistake it for an empty country road and stop/park wherever to rubberneck and take photos.
Watch out for the local riders who know every bump and can punt through very quickly indeed.Ogre on his HD being a case and point.

Oops, started as a simple rant to get it away, and now I got a lesson .

It striked me on my last trip how much I was relying on other drivers respecting some rules (e.g. staying on their side of the road). Although I believe to be fairly defensive in my riding, I'll keep working on it. Thanks jrandom, comment much appreciated.

Funny thing is, I didn't really feel angry or scared. When I saw the car/bike pulling out, I just instinctively moved my bike away, reached for my horn (which I suddenly realised wasn't working) and opened my eyes wide (note to self: this doesn't help solve the problem).

It seems every ride up in the north that i have ends up with a couple of close calls. Still holiday traffic around,stoners ,p heads,and blind pricks that pull out without a look.
Dont worry because when im prime minister theres going to be roadside floggings for those things and no tourists issued with licences...fuck emm
