4 Stroke Leak down testing

I've just been reading about leak down testing on 4 strokes. do motorbike shops here actually perform these tests? how much does it cost?
i see that it is a test that can be used to help determine the condition of the internals. like an ongoing help to see that everything is running as it should.
is this correct?

In a nutshell, yes.

Quick and easy test, shouldn't cost much.

Will give you an idea as to condition of rings and/or valve seats. It'll tell you if there's a problem, but not what it is.

Usually by the time it's done you've got suspicions about one or the other and the symptoms are slightly different anyway.

A bit pointless on a single,a leak down test is usually done on multi cyls to pin point a fault.Just a sophisticated version of the airline on the spark plug adapter.Listen and feel for air at the exhaust,inlet,radiator or oil filler to see where the leaks are.

I used to pump them up and shut the feed down, test time from 100psi to 10psi. Gives you a good idea if anything's changed but there's a fair difference even between the same engine models, you really need baseline data.

I just had my bike tested last week. I asked for a compression test and a leak down test was done as well. Told that due too the age of the motor that every thing seemed to be in order. Average results on both tests.
