The standard 999 puts out 115bhp, the 999S puts out 116hp, and the 999R puts out 125bhp.... the top speed increases from 161mph (999) to 179mph (999R)

The 999 has a dry weight of 199kgs and the 999R has a dry weight of 192kgs....

The 999R is pretty much carbon fibre everything and it also has better suspension...

If you had a gixxer thou on the track, i think the gap would have been huge.....

Arguably a skill mismatch - the guy on the bike is "just" a journo. The guy in the car was a professional driver - in fact, a former Formula 1 racer.

    Sheesh!

115bhp! On a Ducati 999. I would think, for that price and quality, it should be more intune with current litre sports bikes. Still, I couldn't use all 115bhp anyway, so what am I moaning about. She's also a bit fat, for being carbon fibre everything... 199kgs? I don't think my bike has any carbon firbre on it, and it's 172kgs. But, it is a Ducati Why am I such a whore for italian vehicles!!!

    Hmm, I see the 05 999 is getting a 16hp increase and the 05 999R will have 150hp!

    Weird

Only 150 on the new 05 999R? Ah well, I'd still take one give half the chance. Lets see what the vids all about then...

Well, anyone who can do those things with the back end on a 999 has my respect, even if they can't get the best possible lap time out of it. He was probably petrified of lowsiding in front of the camera, too, which might account for the cautious lean angles.

Betcha any of the current common-as-muck Jappa litrebikes would have dusted up both those vehicles with room to spare... I suppose they wanted to do an 'Italian on Italian' thing.

on 5th gear last week they had a straight line drag between a ferrari F1 and a gazelle chopper. if they had have started the chopper on the ground and if it was dry, the F1 car would have creamed it. that guy (kitt?) likes his sideways driving - did you see him in the porsche last week? and why didn't they line up a busa/blackbird/zxr against the F1/chopper combo? or later on in the porsche/chopper track shootout?

Tiff Needle. Given he's raced F1 and Le Mans, road cars are probably boring as hell if he doesn't spice 'em up a bit.

Wonder why they selected a Ducati to compete? Wouldn't a 1000cc 4 cylinder machine (stock) been even more competitive?

They were comparing Italian equipment so it makes sense. After all the Lambo probably isn't the fastest car either.

Maybe they should of used a MV F4 1000cc

They were going for the whole track thing,
where the dukes are still running near the peak in cornering and handelling. Also most car drivers believe that ducati make the fastest bikes in the world, Harley the slowest and Suzuki the crappiest
They also believe that the miata and mx5 are 2 different cars
oh the joys of not understanding, yet still assuming superiority - car fans, igonace is bliss apprarently
