Well in the past few weeks i have test ridden the following bikes :-

Ducati Monster 1000ie

Moto Guzzi Griso 850.

and a Yamaha XT66OR.

What I am after is a bike thats fun to ride at legal speeds, and will be good for commuting.

Of what I have so far tested the Duke was fun but didn't really start rocking until up around and then above the limit and I don't think its suited to commuting.


The Griso was nice, a cross between muscle bike and a cruiser and fills a long time wish to own a Guzzi of some description.


The Yamaha XT660R, test rode as the X version wasnt available as a demo and a supermotard is on the list and I reckon it's probably the way to go.

I have plans to test a KTM 690SM, which i'll need to go upto Palmerston (or the older 640 version), just wondering if anyone would have any further recommendations for other bikes to consider.

The monsters come in a variety of engine sizes - try a 800 if you found the 1000 a bit over powered.

Griso has class.

Or save a lot of bucks on the above and buy a 919 Honda Hornet.
