    Front Fork Repairs

    Hi There fellow Kiwi Bikers.
Can anyone recomment a good repair shop to straighten out a set of front forks for a GSX250 and any aprox idea of how much this might cost.
Preferably someone in the Waikato region, but not necessarily.
Any helpful suggestions would be appreciated.

    Cheers

Have you priced new ones, you might be surprised. You probably only need the legs (the cromed bit) and you can put your good bits together. I had a mate that straightened some forks by making some teflon blocks with scollops the size of the fork and gently straightening them in a press.

    Hi Bubble

Thanks for your info. Have'nt priced new ones yet, but will do tomorrow.
It is just the chrome bits that are bent so they may not be too expensive.
Otherwise will have to call on the expertise of an engineering shop to straighten them out as i don't know anyone with a press.
This was one of our young family members who has just experienced his first Bike v Cage (From Behind) Hopefully a valuable lesson has been learnt from this as luckily only Pride was hurt.

    Cheers

I had another mate that got the forks for his FZ750 recromed to get rid of the stone chips that kept damaging his fork seals. He spent quite alot of money getting them chromed and then found that he could buy new legs for around $120 each.

Look at new ones. I priced rechromeing some a few years ago and they were $200.00 a side. Most of the cost was in stripping the old chrome off. F1 engineering in Hamilton or John Yates from Hamilton would be your best bet. I recommend a good second hand set or new. If the bend is only 3mm or less face them both forward and match the bends and put the bike back together and it should be fine.

depends on the bend, if there is going to be a crease then your screwed.
new suzuki fork tubes can be as much as $500 each, cray ay!
your prob in for 300+ each for yours + seals and new oil.
take em into f1 ,cant hurt. you never know they may be able to save them.
if the bend is low on the tube, take the fork apart yourself to save on labour.
otherwise they will have to pull them to bits to get the tube in the press.
