Here's a pic I took of the same road last year, and another one of the wicked Lindis Pass road which is equally cool.

was in a cage w the missus at the time unfortunately, spent the whole time thinkin "Damn, wish I was on me bike... Damn, wish I was on me bike... Damn, wish I was on me bike..."

Awesome piece of road. One year on the way to the monkey, when we were climbing up the queenstown side there was a parapente following us up about 10 meters out , incredible .I think the first photo is in the Kawerau gorge

It's way down central south of the south island. Nothin to worry about mate, I rode my RG150 from chch down there just for those roads, nearly 500km's each way but oh so worth it. Went over the crown ranges, the really sexy twisty side going up from queenstown over to wanaka actually turned out to be a bit of a disappointment. The RG didn't have the nuts for drive out of those super tight 15's, but coming down the other side was heaven! Spoke to an older gent at the famous cardrona hotel who rides it every day for work, what a lucky bastardo..

I did need a new powervalve on one side afterwards though, oh and I finally saw the low oil light for the first time ever.

I'd love to travel the bottom of the west coast, haast pass and through to wanaka on a bike one day when the weathers cracking. I did just that with an american chick staying with me, but alas we were driving a cage

I nearly got taken out on one of the 15's after the VCR when a silly bitch in a Maxima come round to meet me on my side of the road. If she hadn't swerved away there wouldn't have been enough room for me to get through!
The road is narrow enough if you keep to your own side.

I've done the Crown Range Road once. On a ZRX1200R. Fantastic it was. And the road was pretty darned good too.

It's between Arrowtown and Wanaka going via Cadrona and is the "alternative" route. It's often snowed in winter as it goes over the crown range. Here's a map and pictcha to drool over
