    Roto-Vegas to the Wairarapa

Doing a few km's next weekend and planning a route to get there and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions?

Currently the plan is this route as per Google Maps which leaves Rotorua down SH1 through Taupo, Turangi, Waiouru, then SH54 just short of Feilding, SH3 to Woodville, SH2 on to Pahiatua, Eketahuna ending in Masteron - aprox 412km.

Any suggestions welcome as these roads look rather boring and busy.

You could try Route 52 from Pahiatua to Masterton. Twisty back road. Watch out for loose sheep, cows, angry yokels...

    Don't stop, they're not waving.

If you really do want to have an interesting ride, rather than just get there try this way. Your SH1 option is about as horrible as it can get on a bike

It's the Route 52 that Blue Velvet was talking about

    Hmmmm.....on a Vespa ayyy?

If I were to-ing or fro-ing via the Wairarapa and Rotorua I would opt for:

    a. Whakatane - Opotiki - Waiokeka Gorge - Gisborne - Napier -
    a1 - Waipukurau - Pongaroa - Masterton
    a2 - SH50 - SH2 - Masterton

    or

    b. Atiamuri - Whakamaru - Tokaanu - National Park - Raetihi - Wanganui -
    b1 - Fordell - Hunterville - Cheltenham - Ashurst -
    b2 - Turakina - Marton - Halcombe - Colyton - Ashhurst -
    - Aokautere - Mangamaire - Masterton

But that's me on an ST!! On a Vespa........Hmmmmm!........a Vespa you say.......Hmmmmm!!........Dunno!!

I boobooed, I missed out one of the best raods in the Hawkes Bay - SH50.

I've revised the map to include it. 526km of the best roads the area has to offer.

Ummmm! SH50 is the one in Hawkes Bay under the red shield with a big Five-Zero on it Grub.

If you put your cursor on the centre of your route and drag it right an inch or two, you'll have a nice ride that includes the Napier-Taupo and SH50. They may have even finished refurbishing the Tikokino pub so you can get refreshed on the way.
