Very good point. Maybe this was the only place he could safely see to do a u-turn to pursue someone without killing yet another biker.

Sure it's bad sportsmanship but if you can't pass safely on the passing lane at 110km/h whinge about the wanker that speeds up after going 70km/h before it. Can't blame the cop for going after the easy tickets.

What I was saying that for every k you go, it's like having an extra bullet. The more k's over, the more certainty that you're going to get a bullet to the head.

It was along the lines of the current anti-speeding radio ad likening speeding to being a beekeeper. For those that haven't heard it, they say each few k over is like loosing a bit of protective clothing or his smoker and at 110k he's in the buff surrounded by bees. So at 99k, would it be like I have a flamethrower instead of a smoker? Cause each k under I should be exponentially safer shouldn't I?

that sounds cool. If I promise to ride round at 99, where do I pick up my flamethrower. Riding at 99 with a flamethrower seems ALOT more interesting than riding at 120 naked.

coming back from Paeroa races today, great day by the way, came across a radar cop in probably the lamest place I have ever seen. Busy twisty road with few passing lanes but one of good length ideally placed on virtually the only straight. Guess where the cop is? Parked half way along the passing lane for christ sake! Thanks mate. So after law abiding citizens sit behind traffic for kms they get to said passing lane, let rip briefly to clear traffic and give others a similar chance to pass and hey presto, fined. What a dick.
p.s. confess its the principle that irks as wasn't exactly crawling back from Paeroa

Yep. Saw the fecker. Luckily, managed to get speed back below 110 in time. Must have pissed off all the others behind me, as I was first out into pass mode after being stuck behind a 80k special.

Getting back to the original post (and no disrespect intended to baby seals etc), that is a rotten spot for the cop to sit.

Time and again one can get caught behind a dawdler who ALWAYS floors it when there is a straight or a passing lane. Would a good cop accept there was a reason for going past if there was an evident line of traffic built up? Or would he assume everybody was a speeder except the first car?

I don't like to spend any more time than I need to on the opposite side of the road, so I blip up to maybe 120 to go by and then drop back to cruising speed. Do traffic cops want you to overtake at only 100, thus spending more time on the wrong side of the road? At that speed on a passing lane, there may be a lot of people behind you screaming and moaning, seeing their chance to get by slowpoke vanish.

Yep. You're getting the idea. Even if you're on a regular 2 way bit of road, and running out of room - you're STILL not allowed to go past 100. At least - they'll give you a ticket if you do - and probably another one for dangerous or careless use...

On our way home their was a red Mitis parked halfway along one of the passing lanes


I've seen them parked:
over broken yellow lines
on the footpath outside my daughter's school
on private property in the suburbs
- point is they'll park wherever they think is going to be the most productive. Its a business.
