Best all round sports 250?

At risk of starting an argument here but i just want to know wot people like about certain models and genuine reasons for preference rather than every1 just saying "i own a blah and its the best"... Obviously the 2strokes are the fastest but they are no good as everyday commutes coz the maintenence, economy and reliability is shocking by comparison. Ive owned an RGV, CBR, kwaka eliminator (lol i know), VT250, NSR, Hornet and now im bk on a CBR coz i felt it was the best ALL ROUND, comfortable, very fast, very very reliable, cheap to run and nice looking. My mates zxr is nice looking, very fast but much less comfortable, has a cam chain to worry about, has a very small boot and is rather unreliable (seems to be common). The hornet i owned was great round town but strugled on the open road with no fairing. And no boot. My other mates fzr is a bit slower and has replaced fuel pump 3 times! My VT was great as a commuter and the vtwin sounded nice but obviously was left far behind when the pace picked up. I havent tried a gsxr yet, or the new hyosung. Ive tried a gsx (twin cyl) and theyre good commuter but are slow. I go CBR but which 1 would you put ur hard earned cash into?

ive only had a go on the zxr and my hornet i had a sore back after the zxr, but your right about the open road not country road i find it more of a bitch on the m.way. really wana have a go on a cbr

I tried 16 bikes when I was looking to buy, and honestly, the only one that felt 'complete' to me was the Hyo.

I am 6'4", and thus, felt like a giant on almost everything. I also know that I am a learner, I don't want ridiculous amounts of power, I want a forgiving bike that won't bite back when I make stupid mistakes.

'twas the only contender to fit my specific list of needs and wants.

That said, I love the way it drops into corners, love the V-Twin sound, love the looks. I couldn't have wished for a more all-round bike that fits my needs.

Looking back on things... if i had some proper coin to get started, either a brand new RS125, or a good condition (suspension, engine etc) CBR250RR.

After 7 bikes, assuming you have your full, stop throwing your money away on 250's and buy a real bike! Bigger bikes are cheaper to buy, and generally cheaper to own in the long run.

I havnt ridden alot of 250's. In fact I didnt even know how to ride a motorbike until 6 months ago, but the ZXR250 I bought is just a great all rounder.

Before buying my 1993 ZXR250c I rode a 1991 RGV and a 1992 CBR. Both the RGV and CBR were quick (albeit not that notably faster than the ZXR) but were damn uncomfortable to ride and I can only assume would be far more expensive to maintain than a 4 stroke.
The ZXR in my opinion is also miles better looking than any other 250 (bar the RS250 Aprilia) and has great handling and power to match.

I wouldve liked to try a TZR250 as I have heard good things, but then again commuting from Lower Hutt to Wellington everyday on a 2 stroke wouldv been rediculous. I guess it really comes down to what you want the bike for. If you want to go fast and go hard at the track, buy a 2 stroke faired bike. If you want a fun reliable and easy to ride commuter/sports go for a 4 stroke.

My first 250 was an 1985honda ns 250, was a great bike, lots of fun, but my tick goes to the suzuki rgv 250p, looked good in luckystrike colours, nice sharp lines, hasnt got the funny bubbley rounded off line like the aprilia rs250, not the most comfortable but then i never bought it for comfort, orsum handling and power delivery. Hey each to there own!!!

I own a 250 coz as a commuter they run on the smell of an oily rag and still have enuf performance to be extremely entertaining, especialy on twisty roads. However I am eyeing up a 2002 CRB600f4i for next summer...

LOL obviously u havent riden a cbr as u wuldv noticed it IS a 4STROKE! 4 cylinder bike like the zxr.

The cbr is imho, the best sports 250 out there. I commute on mine very happily, and I ride it like a 2 stroke in the twists (read WOT).

Its not fast. But then again im not at the limits of the bike.

I bought a GT250R for my wife on appeal only - she loves it to bits on account of its' hot sportbike looks. As a learner, it's the most thrilling thing she has ever ridden, except me of course lol, but shez no learner at that.

I haven't done an an extensive comparison as has Hubba Gubba, but it is interesting to hear his.

There has been some loose bits found on the Hyosungs - as there was with our two, and this is unfortunate. Ours seem to be solid now.

So now I have the big brother of the GT250R and I love it also.

if you like to wring a bikes neck and pull maximum performance at maximum revs out of it, then you will be better off with a CBR. The GT250R is heavy, torquey, and huge and doesnt rev out like the CBR does. BUT around town where it counts there is loads of torque mid-range and this is where most of your driving will be done. It will happily ride around town in top gear @ 50km/hr.

Not that I am aware of. Ours just turn and go. Every day.

Yeah, I sure do love the Hyosung! Only thing that got me was the weight to start off with, but I'm slight... Got used to it a bit now. Also, it starts with the clutch disengaged so I'm extra cautious now and ALWAYS pull the clutch in when starting, even if the dash light indicates it is in neutral!

Got an rs and my god there unreal, its hard to compare them to the other 250s, there amazing amazing bikes, but there expensive and high maintinance....there like a good hooker, theyll give you the best ride of your life and cost you a damn fortune for it!!!

I havnt found any reliability problems yet, if you use good parts they go for a while, and ya not the most economical....but the performance

for an al rounder i gota give my vote to the zxr c....it was comfy, felt big enuf, good position and went really well. I wasnt comfy on the cbr, but i think the difference between the 2 is down to which you find fits you better.

Not a fan of the new 250's unless your a real learner (1st bike), in which case there ok, but i recan theyd get a bit boaring if you were on one for two years.
