Ah well, looks like a long-term restoration project instead then.

    Accommodation

I have just confirmed accommodation for the journey. We have been given a special rate of $20 per person per night at a "mysterious location" in the far north (North of Houhora, south of Waitiki Landing).

The accommodation cost includes linen & bedding (sheets, towels, pillowcases, pillows, duvets, blankets) which will be washed for us after we leave. The venue can accommodate 15 - 20 people depending on how we arrange things. (For higher numbers some people would need to sleep on sofas etc.)

The venue includes a fully equipped kitchen but we need to supply all our own food. We can discuss the logistics of this a bit closer to the time, once more details of the trip have been organised.

    I'm getting excited!

Just to clarify. Sorry if I appear uninformed but rather than go through 35 odd pages of posts, is a GN250 [oldish one] considered to be crappy enough for the task at hand? Cos I just scored one, going, but needing work and now this event is starting to sound real interesting!

You need to PM BigDog or fireball to get a special dispensation as a GN250 is such a powerful and sophisticated machine! But I'm sure they will let you tag along on condition you promise to carry some essential supplies.

I'm doing it on a ginny, but i'm handicapped by my sheer size and being a designated packhorse. Try for an exception, plead your case and see how ya go

    What they said.
Exceptions are exceptionally easy to get.
Just give me a reason, any reason.

Keep in mind they are more guidelines. IF it is in in the spirit of the event you will get approval.

I have added the following to the original post.
Added 12/05/08: Please note the above are guidelines not rules.
IF you are complying with the spirit of the event then you will be given approval to bring a bike that does not meet all the criteria. Just give me and Fireball a reason. It can be logical, emotional, comical, downright illogical it does not matter just has to be a reason other than I want to do it on my normal bike.

If you want to bring your ordinary bike and you would need your full license to ride it or your bike is not inappropriate enough you will need to sponsor another rider.

Please stop trying to change the rules it is defeating the purpose of the challenge.

Red Baron have a rental that might suit the purpose...
If is for learners to sit their test on but I doubt they care what you use it for if you rent it for three days.

Well I would be dead keen, but trying to secure a ride seems nigh on impossible as I have 0 budget.

The VTR isn't too much more grunty and I could ride sweep or provide a rescue pillion service.

looks like i am going to have to pull out, i didnt want to but it seems i can not find a bike and as the orginiser it would be wrong for me to do it on my 250

so unless anyone out there has a bike i can use looks like you guys are on your own.
I've learnt to hide the pain inside, open the throttle and ride away.
