Somethings leaking - advice and help needed

    Yaalllow nooby ere,

I just had a full service done to my new bike a week ago. Got it back and took off the fairings to give it a through clean.

Now I've noticed a couple of leaks. I don't really know what the parts are called or whether this is "normal" or expected.

    Its a 94 ZZR250 thats done bout 30K.

A picture is supposed to speak better than a typist so please have a look.......

:spudwhat: :spudwhat: :spudwhat: :spudwhat: :spudwhat: :spudwhat:

    And tell me whats wrong.

    Thanks in advance.....

PS: Hope to see some of you on the 2nd and the 4th

OK, I'll stick my neck out and take a guess.

There is a rubber pipe that goes from the crankcase into the airbox. Can;t quite remember what it does, but I do know that if you have a little too much oil it sometimes flows up through this pipe into the airbox. There are also some other rubber pipes that come out of the airbox and drain out around the swingarm mounts.

A bit of moisture can come in to the airbox and if it mixes with the oil in the airbox it can get this colour.

It could just be that the oil pressure is a little bit high and its forced a bit of oil up the crankcase breather pipe into the airbox, and its dripped out these vent tubes.

In which case its nothing to worry about.

    That's my guess

    However...

check that pipe on the side of the motor. It looks like an oil return pipe. It could be that the o-rings in the pipe aren't sealing quite right and the oil is leaking out.
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

yeah I just had another thought and edited my post. Looks like the o-ring on the oil return pipe might be a bit suss. It may have been on the way out anyway and getting the oil pressure up may have accelerated its demise.

only there for greenies, just slows you down by pumping hot oily air in to the airbox to be burnt with the incoming air eventually

No1 leak looks to be coming from the alt cover, this should be just an Oring seal, but could be a gasket.
No2 leak I don't think is a leak....I reckon that is silver paint or antiseize grease, see how there is a lot of silver paint around, some overspray too.It could be a leak out of the shift lever shaft, bringing the paint with it.Get some on your finger and work it around a bit - oil, water,or paint??

my ZXR400 had a tube out of the airbox it is to drain the little condensation that forms in the air box and it should have a clamp on it to stop it sucking back every now and then release the clamp to vent the water. now if the filter is oiled the water will be milky brown?
otherwise wheres the water pump in relation to this common to blow seal and it will have drip hole. milky brown indicate the oil seal gone so fix it quick our your may have bigger probs any milk in the engine oil? thats a sure sign.
Your never to old for a sportsbike

Yaa thats what the mechanic said. He also said something like 250+.

The front leak - near the crank - he said that that's normal wear and tear.

In another thread I talk about not being able to find neutral. He says cos my clutch is slipping - mebbe so but thats gonna be another 200+

So I'm looking at a bill of about another 500 - after just spending over a $1,000 on it.

I wonder what is happening here. So many bills.................

I bought the bike cos he said that for about 2,500 he could fix the bike up to be like new..........

Now its 2,730 - and now a bill of 500............

    For the $1000+ I got
    Front schocks overhauled
2 New Pirelli Sport Demon tyres
    Full Service
    Bearings changed
    New Ohlins chain
    Both New sprockets

    so thats 3200+ ---- hmmmm

Anyone know a place where i can get a second opinion????

Will definetly do so. Thanks SM.

This work is being done at the house (privately) of the head mechanic of one of Aucklands biggest bike shops - the chap was actually recommended by one of the members of this forum - a "Most reputable member".

So i will first see what kerry has to say, then see. cos if it turns out that the guy was telling the truth I don't want to bad mouth him.
