Just wondering how many of you ladies have taking your hubby/s.o. or kids out on the back of your bikes? What was it like the first time you carried a passenger and how did you learn?
Has anyone gotten any weird looks for having a male passenger?

I've pillioned my husband 3 or 4 times now. Only once was on my bike. I don't ride with a pillion, so it's something I've got to learn. I hate it and he's a crap pillion.
We want to go touring at some stage in the future and I don't want to be a few months without a bike but taking one bike is the plan to keep costs down.
Each time we go out two up with me riding, I feel like it's the first time, but I haven't pillioned enough to be blase about it.
I'm thinking of doing a course at some stage, but also know it's going to be time in the rider's seat.
Wierd looks, yeah. I'm fairly short, he's tall.
Hope to read some other reports on how to get over the fear factor.
Riding Bitch?! What an odd expression.

if I'm broke down, coz we each have our own bikes, and she doesnt reeeeeely enjoy someone on the back and she doesnt reeeely like being a pillion herself (why would she - she has a hot-ass bike herself.)
HOWEVER, I would ride in or on ANY vehicle under her command without hesitation, as her driving is exquisite. M is a professional driver and has been for nearly 20 years and her mindset is an excellent, if not conservative one.
Gee I should get some points for this post ay

Im not the best pillion anyway, but I got no problem getting behind a woman...![]()
I've pillioned on my friend's Bros 650 when my bike was in the shop. It was strange being a passenger, but no big deal.
What's the 'Bitch' reference?
My first pillion experience was behind Keystone19... for 600km... on a GSXR600.
That was months ago and i'm still in mourning for my arse.
I have my 12 year old son as pillionFirst took him on the road a couple of weeks after his 5th birthday!
Before that, we used to do a bit of trail riding down by the river.. so he was already well used to being on a bike by the time he turned 5!
I also used to pillion a friend who had gone blind, but still had his bike.. so friends could take him out riding!here's a couple of links from another thread of taking male pillions..

The best way to learn.. is just to DO IT!! The more you do it, the better you will get!
Riding "bitch" is the term given to the person on the pillion seat.. typically being "the missus".. hence "the bitch on the back".
& WHY shouldn't guys get on the back behind a woman rider anyway?????? :spudwhat: Is it some kind of "lesser" position being on the back with a female rider???? or is it just male arrogance & pride!!!?
After my last experience of being on the back behind a male rider.. doing 160ks in a 50k zone..I won't get on the back again!

I basically learnt to ride on the road on a 750 Katana with BF on the back, plus luggage. As a skinny 16-17 year old with BF pillion we got some really strange looks.
I once took a staunch Harley rider home from a Poker Run after he broke his rubber band.
I get a wee bit nervous taking my kids on my bike. They are all great pillions but it's every other bugger on the road I'm worried about. At the end of a short ride with one of my kids, I feel like I've done 500+kms.
I've never been pillion with another woman riding.
Ha, yea I would pillion behind a chick, learn't to pillion between my mum and dad.
"I came into this game for the action, the excitement... go anywhere, travel light,... get in, get out,... wherever there's trouble, a man alone... Now they got the whole country sectioned off; you can't make a move without a form."
Paved roads are just another example of wasted tax payer dollars.
My first pillion (and only one so far) was Ripper Roo92. He's just turned 16 and doesn't mind being seen on bike behind mum (although it's such a gorgeous bike, who could really complain?) lol.
Haven't taken my husband as he is a lot heavier than me and I am not sure about how the balance of the bike might be affected by that.
As for how did it feel the first time? Was very cautious initially when moving off but once underway it was surprisingly easy. Just kept in mind allowing for stopping distance etc - no problems whatseoever. In fact it was a strange feeling being able to get both feet flat on the road ha ha! I'm only too happy to take someone on the back as long as they are aware of how to move with me etc. and understand the importance of not doing stupid distracting things. Apart from my son though, I don't really have anyone else to take out with me. Boo hoo.
We (Cajun, my sister and me) learnt to take pillions at the same time we learnt to ride our first road bike (a ZZR250). I think I'd had my license one week before I took my first pillion (we'd been riding farm bikes for years).
At this point, Dad has his 1500 Vulcan so one of us went on the back of that and the other two went on the ZZR. We'd chop and change so each person had a turn riding, as pillion on the Vulcan, and as pillion on the ZZR. This often meant that Cajun (at 6'2") was on the back of the bike with either my sister or me riding it. It must've looked ridiculous!
Once we all got our own bikes (back in '98ish) we stopped taking pillions. We have a rule in our house: when we need to take a pillion the bike's owner gets to ride it and the other one gets on the back. I think I've taken Cajun for two rides in the last two years.
