Poll - How much more are you willing to pay?

I started a thread here about the significant difference in cost of aftermarket (re-branded) parts for my M50.

So I thought I would get an indication on how much extra people were willing to pay over ebay or US suppliers to support their local dealers.

** Note - I know that the pricing in this instance is set by Suzuki NZ - not by my local dealer (Holshot) who I have been extremely happy.

For me it also depends where it is made.
I will pay a little more for somthing thats Imported and on-sold but will pay lots more for somthing thats built local.

I'd much rather buy local, but quite often, the price difference doesn't make it a viable choice.

I'll be honnest, for me, anything I buy is a "treat item" on my budget, so unfortunately, price is a big factor.

shipping is not a big deal for me....im impatient while its in transit but i buy where i find the good deals

I voted 10% extra but it depends on the product. If its made locally then I'll pay more and if the profit on goods goes to a Kiwi I'll pay more - provided the markup is reasonable. If a product is made overseas I fail to see why I should pay significantly more to buy it locally than I would if I import it myself...
Having aftersales back-up is important to me so on a tricky item like suspension I'd prefer to buy locally but having said that, most parts are so reliable we seldom need the back-up, do we?
Business is global, baby. And it has been for quite a while.

I voted 10% too but like 007XX the mind is willing but the wallet isn't, so i usually have to go with the cheeper option if it's a big difference.

I normally go for where ever is cheapest,but now some importers and manufacturers are covering all bases re private imports.
I brought a Power Commander from the States which unfortunately shat itself,but now they only warranty US products in US,the NZ distributor here in turn will only deal with NZ sold units.
Here they cost $585
I can get one from the US for $400NZD landed.
Thats a huge mark up,considering I have brought mine from a retailer in US,I would think the NZ distributor pays wholesale prices,the shops here don't make a killing,so someone is making a hefty margin.
I'm all for buying NZ but ppl get sick of getting screwed after a while.

Depending on the item and the risk I'll pay up to 20% more. It's good for the economy, creates jobs and raises wages.

the comparison isnt bang on though, for a fair comparison though you should be comparing is the price of buying from a local dealer vs the price in a dealer in the US for example.

then you ask how much you're willing to spend or save online overseas vs a shop (cost of returns, disposal etc).

For the item cost dealers should naturally be more expensive than an online retailer by the nature of the business model.

I got some shit done on the Triumph recently here in Warkworth, a tad dearer than in Auckland but i dont care about the cost, yes i hate spending money but if i need to, or want to, the amount doesn't bother me, if i want something i just get it. Cant be arsed looking for deals.

I'll buy cheaper items locally like oil,filters,plugs etc
but for more expensive items i'll import unless i can get em second hand
unless i need it now.
got my 1200 kit in for half price over NZ shops.
would've done it here if the mark up wasn't soooooooo big.

For regular servicing items like oil,filters and tires i go to the local Suzuki Dealer,
in cases where im spending money oem parts or aftermarket parts,i tend to buy from overseas to save the big bucks.

I'll only pay extra if I can justify it being worth the extra money to have it now instead of in up to three weeks time.

However when i can get a Yoshimura TRC exhaust from ebay in three weeks for $636 + customs, versus $1150 and two weeks i know my money is going overseas - even if that particular shop has been very good to me.
