    BOYRACERS... Where's the bikes? Chch

Im sure most of u are aware that friday nyts in chch means the streets are packed with boyracers, some with nicely modified cars (and sum f**kin shit ones) hooning rnd and cruisn, not just the 4 aves but the outskirts aswell. I used to be 1 of them till i found two wheels is more fun and attracts less attention from mr policeman. Me and my mates go out on cbr/vfr/zxr now and again but never see any other groups out. I know its a bit dangerous with half of them unlicenced, sum stoned and/or drunk and sum in illegal cars but its great fun watchn the chaos, racing, burnouts and looking at a few nice cars. oooo and then the arrests. They also usually have decent cruises organised and dont mind a few twowheelers in the mix. Are there any other bikers out on a friday night that we have misd? or is it actually just us 3 that go stir them up....

I hear in the 60's and 70's there were masses of bikes cruising around the Square, and the holy grail was to reach 100kph (or Mph?) on the longest side?

I heard it from a greybeard.

lol the late 50s & 60s the Square used to get over run with bikes, namely the Milk Bar Cowboys and Cathedral was basically like a large island but the run along the northern side from the Press corner (Worcester St to Colombo St) past Warner's Pub has always been a drag strip.
Best memory I've got was one Friday night at about 2am back in 88' waiting for a feed at "The Doghouse" and watching a V-Max huss up the rear along the entire straight before heading off towards Victoria square.

Cos you can put your girlfriend in the back, warm and dry, and park up and
    F
    U
    C
    K

    in comfort.
Which you could do on a bike only if you were quite organised. And had a tent. And a very tolerant girl.

I think that's why Subaru Impretza station wagons are so popular among the boy racer set. You can fold the rear seats down and have a full-length mattress in there.
