BMW F800GS - first test review

Here's what motorcycledaily thought of the F800GS. Note that they tried it off road with the road biased tyres.. and were still impressed.

Personally I really like the looks of it in grey and would take one over the 1200 boxer GS, if this was the type of bike I was after. Light and nimble beats heavy and gigantum anyday. Oh yeah, don't be fooled by the 85hp claim. That will be rear wheel. Some euro mags tested the earlier F800s and found 97hp at the crank and close to 85hp at the rear, which is bloody good from a 800cc twin.

With gas hitting US$100 a barrel today the F800 motor has another big advantage. My F800S was outstanding for it's frugal comsumption. I got 385km once on the little 16l tank ..and it still wasn't empty.

Write ups on the 800 have been consistently good so it should be an awesome adventure bike, looks like we'll be queueing up to try yours out DucatiJim.....

F800GS for $18-19k vs KTM 990 ADV or ADV S for $23.5 or $24 respectively. I think the pricing of the F800GS is a little off - I'm pretty sure I would for the KTM for those prices. Of course there would be plenty of test riding first though

Ham m/cycles confirmed a Nov arrival to me today.
Looks like the adv options are widening. Tenere, Bmw, all we need is Honda to remake the XR650L into a slightly improved model with less plastic bits than the Transalp and for Suzi to give the DR a good update.
09/10 could see all Marque's getting into it big time.

The new Tenere or a Ducati HyperRetard with knoblies would be top of my list if I were buying a new bike (yeah - dreams are free)

Would not even consider a new BMW - I did when the 650 first came out - but bought a adnoH instead - although I shouldn't admit that here

But I just can't see the new plastic fantastic Transalp selling at all well

    Just my $0.02
