Now, back to the point ...

Sure, but this market is one which is not a free market, but one subject to market failure due to regulation - ie. learners have to get a 250 or under. The laws of supply and demand operate in this context, but this is not your classical free market. Conditions are created that favour sellers and cartelisation due to the retriction on substitutes and the limited supply.

And a bike is not a commodity ...

That's a very nice zxr!!! Mint indeed.
If it isn't already de-restricted make sure you get it done quickly - will increase power at the rearwheel from ~27 hps -> ~37 hps!

There should be quite a bit of info on how to do it around the net...

    Bullshit!

Of course it's a free market - in so far as you can talk about a free market in a society that has socialistic traits. The fact is that there is a local effect that causes a higher demand in a certain segment of the market doesn't affect the way the market works - just how the prices are set.

If all of the sudden everyone with blue eyes had to eat 2 kgs of carrots every week there would be an increase in demand and the price would increase as a result unless the supply is infinite. This is no different - the 250 ccms are in high demand because a certain group of people "NEED" them - as a result the market price increases since there is not an inifinite supply of 250 ccm bikes (holds most true for sportsbikes - which again are the commodity which is in the lowest supply).

    Bullshit - QED.

I bagged a '88 GSXR-250 for $2300 and its mechanically sound, 40,000 on the clock, little scruffy cosmetically but otherwise sweet, so i reckon $3500 is easily enough if you dont mind getting ito it with some bog and armour all.

    FZR For Sale

    Hey mate,

I might have what your looking for.

I'm looking to sell my 1989 FZR 250, 28000 k's on the clock. Mechanically its in very good order, I have had no problems with it what so ever and commute to work on it everyday. It has been knocked over on its left side by a shopping trolley and has fairing damage but this has been fixed up and doesn't look too shabby at all.

Reason for sale: Looking to buy a RVF 400 - anyone got a mint one for sale?

If your interested mate, PM me or give us a call: 021 06 06 201

I know your looking to spend $3k, I wouldn't sell it for this as I know I can get a fair amount more for it, but we can discuss a price if you want..

    Cheers

haha thanks - I have heard the GSX is a bit slower than the other 4's out there. however I have heard the GSXR's are good value with great performance.. I have not seem too many around, is it because everyone wants them or they are just rare?

This ZXR would be a good deal if you could pick it up for around $3800. It looks in bloody good condition. Only needs the fairings to be resprayed/fitted and re-wofd and away you go.

RSider - thats a beauty and if I had the funds right now - It would be sold :P

Hey word to anyone who has wisdom:
    - If I purchased outside auckland, would 'cheaper' be a fair statement made to bikes outside the reach of the bombays?

It seems to have this trend that bikes are 'better' priced outside auckland. 'Better' because it seems many people are wanting to resell at what they purchased it from a bike store.

3800 would be a very reasonable price for that bike - something I would definately be serious on if I was ready to purchase!!

    Thanks for pointing it out!

    Hey there,

I own a ZXR 1989 model, I love this bike but have been toying with the idea of selling as i have changed cities and don't really have a place to work on it.
I ride this everyday, commuting, and for entertainments sake.

    Rundown.

    1989 ZXR250a black/metallic grey
    44,000km's currently
    Brand new wof (vtnz)/reg
Carbs pulled apart, cleaned, balanced and tuned but just motorcycles Christchurch
    Two brand new bridgstone tyres
Fairings in good condition, A few chips here an there
    Auto chain luber

I think this may interest you although the km's are slightly higher than what you wanted. I'd be willing to let this go around the 3k mark. There are a couple of things which will need attention in the future, which is probably a new chain and sprocket and brake pads. Everything else is Dandy from what i know.

If you're interested, drop me a pm and i'll send some pictures. Keen to sell, but in no hurry if you know what i mean? I'm sure there is another project for me out there.

hXc's Spada will be available about the end of May. Someone mentioned these as a model you could consider. Brilliant handling, nice torquey v-twin, very handy speedwise. If anyone tells you that they are just an old VTR...they are not.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

    easy - first, fzr250rr, second, cbr250rr. third, gsxr250r. fourth, fxr150.

don't buy a zxr250rr, they're not worth the ground they sit on, unless its genuinely low kms and owned by one old lady in all that time. got a mate wanting to buy a 250rr, guy says, 'take my zxr, 30,000kms for $5000. just - its in pieces and i'm replacing the clutch cable.'

    clutch cable?! at 30000kms..

and i know fxr150 is a single. you'd be suprised how good a ride they are!
