Army Museum 2 Day Code Green

Has anyone done this trail ride? and if so do you recommend it for an old slow guy and his 12 year old daughter?..... I must have driven over the Desert Rd a hundred times and said "I'd love to go riding here one day"...............

I would love to go to this one, but with a new baby due around that time I will have to stay close to home, but i'm sure it will be an awesome ride.

    Army Ride

This has to be one of the best riding experiences I have had in the lower north island. Last years event was nothing short of awsome. It is a ride that would suit any ability as long as it is dry. The ride consists of tank (LAV/APC) tracks in volcanic sand with wide open spaces and and plenty of variety with 4 loops last year to choose from.

And no I am not in the army or involved in the running of this event but just love riding that ground.

P.S Dont tell anyone else as I don't want to be riding with 1900 other maniacs like at Desert Storm!

would not recommend riding in army land if your not meant to be there. it is just an accident waiting to happen. i would not gamble on the fact that they are not training in that area, or were the day before and left bits and peices lying around.

If only that was my misses, I wouldn't be wasting my time going on any rides, well not on a bike, haha

Here's how it was on a previous trailride there.
Car parking and camping at the rugby ground.
Usual kids track adjacent to car park.
30k southern track consisted of hee haa rolly polly hills, then into tussock and tank track. 1/2 way round the track split into goat track for the two wheelers, and more track and gravel for 4 wheelers and novice's, after joining back up it was back to the pits over the top of the Totem.

The 10 k is just the easy rolly polly bit.

The 50k north track heads out to the area you see from the main road and is like being out on a really long loamy motocross track with more tussock ,tank track and some HILLS etc etc.(be prepared to be tapped out in top gear on this loop.).

I'm pretty keen.............. It'll be dependent on reasonable weather though, we don't have riding gear suitable for the Arctic.
