    WTB: Sports 600

During the last year browsing through Trademe, keeping an eye on the market for when I got my full, there were a number of bikes popping up which where tempting me to upgrade early. But I held off and watched them all sell, thinking my time would come.

Only, now that I've got my full, all these tempting offers seem to have dried up completely! Could be a lot to do with the time of the year, I guess, but it's still pretty frustrating.

So, I'm looking to buy a nice sports 600, mid 90s to about 2000 (price dependant), something like a CBR600 F2 or F3, or ZX-6R (or equivalent from Mr Suzuki or Yamaha). I'd like it to be relatively stock standand - OEM fairings and paint job in tidy condition. An aftermarket end can is fine though. I don't want any projects at this stage, just something tidy and reliable, that doesn't need any major work.

I don't mind travelling in the South Island to view it, but I would much prefer the bike to be in Christchurch as I now decide what I like based on how it rides, not which sticker is on the tank or how it looks. Because I've never owned a bigger bike, I won't be buying one without test riding it first. Since I don't know how the particular bike rides it'd be silly buying a bike unseen, even if someone else has checked it out for me.

Ah, but how will I pay for it, I hear you ask, and what is my price range? I'll be paying the total agreed price in cash, or equivalent like internet banking. I'd prefer not to spend more than $6000 (would rather not spend more on my first big bike at this stage), but may spend a little more if I fall in love.

Something like this would be good, though this one is a little more than I want to spend at this point.

PM or post here, either way, thanks for looking.

    Up you go.

I should also point out I will consider older sportsbikes as well, as long as they're well looked after. I don't have to spend $6k, after all

You sure you can't stretch to $7500 for a really nicely looked after 2004 Z750?

Actually, it's quite the other way around, thanks all the same, but you might as well go post your spam somewhere else.

Don't think that I can, unfortunately. Also I'm not really looking for a naked bike at this stage, would quite like a fully faired bike. Cheers for peeking in tho

Fully faired bike syndrome wears off the first time your pride and joy gets written off because of cosmetic damage.

Indeed, this has crossed my mind. Back and forth, back and forth... and it's still something I'm considering. I'll definitely be fitting crash bungs, no matter what I actually end up buying, whether it's faired or not. Still, I don't want the phantom of a crash to dictate to me what I'll consider as an option, either. Naked bikes I've ridden so far seem to have higher bars and lower pegs - nice when you want to cruise... but when you want to tuck in behind the screen, pretend you're Mick Doohan (just to be different ) and carve up some twisties? Can't beat a faired bike. But then, I'm a loon...

What exactly did I lose? I don't believe I've lost anything. I'm not a man without patience, or I'd have bought a bigger bike sooner, wouldn't I.

Hell, if anyone wants to go out there and buy a bike that's bigger than their licence allows them to ride, and intentionally breaks the law, risking not just a big fine but a loss of licence, making it even longer until you can have your full, not to mention the consequences on insurance if you crash... i.e. no payout, you wouldn't be covered since you're not legally allowed to ride it - they can go for gold, be my guest.

Many people do upgrade before they're due, and that's fine, but I'm not one of them and am happy with the way I've done it. Legally, I might add. I was just lamenting the fact that the bikes where available then, but they aren't now.

I'm not here in this thread advising people to go one way or the other, if you want to discuss that, by all means, start yourself up a nice shiny new thread and discuss all you like.

Not something I'd want to risk, though, since it's down to interpretation of the law enforcement, really. Mr. Motorist could plead innocent, and the police are more likely to agree with him if he's fully licenced and you are not.

Also, if you have a crash all on your own (and there's a fair chance of that, riding a bike you aren't used to yet), you'd be left without a leg to stand on. It wasn't a risk I was prepared to take.

Maybe the thread doesn't quite come off the way I intended - apologies for the misunderstanding. Yes, I would quite like a bigger bike now, thankyou for offering ()... but I'm prepared to wait for the right bike to come along too. A little frustrating the bike shops in Christchurch don't seem to bother with selling sports 600s for me to look at...

Yeah not many of the dealerships in town stock $6000 sportsbikes.

What I meant is that they don't really seem to have any used sports 600s really. I'd like to at least be able to test ride one or two to get some idea of what to expect, but that's difficult when they just aren't around.

I know I'm not likely to find a good one in my price range at a dealer, I'm quite aware of that. That's why this WTB is on here...
